lol... bad idea dude. we keep it sorta PC here... but seriously. i would be interested to know your dads opinion on a hobbyists graphic design as art. but in all honesty, how many people here are strictly hobbyists? graphic design is how i make money and im sure im not alone in that. of course, its a small job, but its by no means small time.
Oh no, I'm saying the reverse, I'm saying art that's a hobby or a career isn't REAL art. Imho opinion REAL art isn't a profession or a hobby, it's a passion that becomes a pat of your life, any great artist only did art. If you do anything besides art then imo you're not an artist.
that kinda makes sense, you do need passion to be a good artist, but to say that you cant do anything else is ridiculous. Da Vinci? not an artist. he can't be; he was also a scientist. the mona lisa clearly is not art. granted, that example is extreme, but you get my point.
Why can't something that is a hobby or career be art? Everything around you includes art - from everyday clothes, to games, and so on. And everything around you had to be made by people. Art can come from anyone. That doesn't mean everyone will be the best, but everyone can create art. You don't need to be a 24/7 painter to make art. And you know what, people actually do things that are not art. That doesn't mean they're not artists. And artist is only someone who creates art - not someone who only does art.
If you ask me that modern ---- isn't art either. And yes drawing a small picture but that small picture is true beauty (depending on who made it). It's the artists soul conveyed onto paper. People like hockney, and jackson pollock, and thomas kinkade, and warhol, and and just about anyone else alive in the last century whose art is "priceless" are not artists. They are people who know NOTHING about art and are con artists. In reality. No they aren't, art is divine, it's holy, or whatever other terminology you prefer. But art is in fact something more it's...well art is alive. When you create art it's like creating life. It's something beyond just physical.
There is just something I would like ot point out. Most artists were misunderstood during the time in which they lived and their work was only truly recognized after death. Picasso is a GREAT example of this. He was a street painter, very poor, his paintings were dirt cheap, and he was considered very odd. Stating anyone ine the last 100 years is not a true artist, or their knowledge of art is minimal is grossly incorrect. Art is NOTHING more than an expression of self onto a canvas to abe shared with the world (imo), which is almost exactly what the definition stated.
You know what annoys me? Is that you come onto a ------ing graphics forum and declare that sigs are not art. You're a ------ing idiot.
WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION OF ART: Art refers to a diverse range of human activities and artifacts, and may be used to cover all or any of the arts, including music, literature and other forms. It is most often used to refer specifically to the visual arts, including media such as painting, sculpture, and printmaking. However it can also be applied to forms of art that stimulate the other senses, such as music, an auditory art. Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy which considers art. Art comes in many different forms besides a painter. Why do you think a musician is called an artist? Anything that can show ones own expressions in a form others cabn relate to is art in my book.
