Well I have a friend that would like to upgrade his xp laptop to seven. But he has a cluster **** of programs. If I did an in-place install of vista onto his xp machine, then did another in-place upgrade from vista to seven, would it work?

    That's how I did mine.

A fresh install is preferred though...

Worked fine for me. I ended up formatting and re-installing anyways though.

Fresh install is always better than a upgrade.

I'd probably say that it's best to do a fresh install as well. Find out what he uses and needs most and have the discs for those ready to go.

Damnit, I don't want to do a fresh install, I'm not sure if I'm even getting paid for it.

You'd charge a friend for something like that?
