ah please move this to the Technology section, accidentally posted it here. "XP Antivirus 2008 is one of the latest counterfeit anti-spyware that devastates the world wide web." Yes I'm a fool, I downloaded and installed this program thinking it would work, until I read about it on the net. I was unable to uninstall/remove this program, until I found a bunch of tutorials on how to remove it, I thought system restore would save all the trouble, so I restored back to the day before, it was gone, out of my Program Files and Start Menu. I'm just wondering, does system restore completely and permanently remove this out of my computer? Also, I'm not sure if this has happened before(I don't pay attention), but my Norton Anti Virus has a red X on it telling me I need to fix the problem, after 'fixing' it, it still asks to fix the problem with the red X on the icon. Could it be the program messing with it? Thanks
Thats a first for me... XP Antivirus 2008  Just read about it on VistaMarketPlace .. well here is the deal... Being a good Corporation like Microsoft is, I do not trust their protections except that come with the OS System Restore does Roll Back your Driver Installations / Program Installations / and any other work that you might have done that day to the day or your choice of time in the past. As far as I know the program XP AV 2008 should have been permanently removed from your computer.. If you still think that it is somewhere hiding on your computer I suggest you download Crap Cleaner Link: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ And after installing it -- Run a Full Analysis and then Run Cleanup Run an Analysis of your registry and Clean it After that go to the Tools -- Uninstall and it will give you a whole list of the Programs that are not visible through the Norton or Add/Remove Programs Menu. Uninstall it there Also one good thing that you get from CCleaner is that in Tools -- Start-Up section it gives a list of all the Startup .dll and .exe files so you can delete the Start-Up programs that you do not like.. .. unless and untill you want to edit your MSconfig file.. if you want to go old school If that doesn't work either Then just run Avast and see if that finds anything Avast Link: (need to purchase it) http://www.avast.com/ Also in my opinion and (many more people around the world) Norton is a piece of ----t product when it comes to AntiVirus as it runs in background and takes up to much RAM (memory) which slows your computer down even when it is Idle So I would suggest (even if you got it yesterday) to Uninstall the Norton and Purchase / Download Avast, it is faster, on all the time 24/7 and works fine in BG So yeah... If needed any further help do ask! -Zain
