Ok 2 questions here: - When you have a Dual core processor (X2), do you need to download an additional driver in order to make windows xp recognize it or it will just automatically do it? - Is there an option in WINXP to run certain applications with one core and other apps with the other? I read some plays dun run if u try to use the 2 processors at the same time. Could I be burning a DVD with one core and playing with the other one?
it will automatically detect it, but in applications it will not use the other core unless it supports it and it will take some time for both of the cores to be used all the time
not true. Ok yes windows will detect the second core if you bios supports the second core. If you first install windows and its not then you will need to update your bios. Secondly you can set programs to use core 0 or core 1, by going to task manager and setting the affinity by right clicking the process. so you can tell a game to run or core 0 while you are video encoding with it on core 1. Windows itself is mulicored so it use both cpus when needed. Lots of programs like maya, prime95, etc use both cores so do some games like Quake 4, AOE, etc. So playstation you individual programs might not use both cores but you set 2 different applications to run on separate cores for greatly increased performance.
