Basically what I am asking is details about the game. I dont want, "go check out their main site" as I already have. I am wondering from people who have played either or both as to which one you think is best. I want info basically gameplay hours, quests, sidequests, the main parts of the game, parts that have been discovered yet not beaten, monthly price, replay value, things to do, etc. All of the options, classes, races, magic styles, weapon styles, etc. ANY information you can give me based on your experience in either game will help me make a decision as to which one I want to buy.
I havent played FF XI yet..but ive been playin WoW almost a year and id say go with that. Ive play anywhere between 6 -13 hours. Every town you head into theres always gonna be quests...id say like 35% of the mobs in WoW drop items that starts another quest. So quests could have like 8 parts to it (for example some of the shaman quests...the second one for water was like 7 or 8 quests long). I havent even touched the surface of that game. They just added in this new thing where both factions are in a race to open these doors to ancient realm(Gates of Ahn'Qiraj). Im sure like FF XI..they add on all new stuff everytine they get a chance. Theres a new expansion comin up in August called Burning Crusades...They're adding 2 more character races to the game and alot more stuff besides that. Its like 14.99 a month...I guess youd really have to play it to get a handle of the game to see if you really like it. THe choice of race is totally up to you...Ive been through all the races...classes and what not to find what I really wanted to play. Not sure if this is descriptive enough for ya.
WOW all the way, FFxi is more for the FF fans, wow is more or less for anyone who plays or enjoys mmorpg.
well thats my main problem, ever since FF 3 for the SNES and FF Legends 1, 2, and 3 for the gameboy ive loved FF. Also, I think I have a free way of getting into WoW ima have to do (i have a friend who has WoW and only plays one char on his char slots so i may be able to just install his version on my computer and let him pay for it lol... or his parents i guess )
I have only played FFXI on the 360 and it isnt that great as far as graphics but it is still in beta so I imagine it could improve, I also have some friends who are addicted to WoW and they wanted me to get it but Im not much for PC MMORPG's -GearGuy2001
If you're a hardcore veteran MMO player, FFXI is better. If you're casual and/or new to MMOs, WoW will probably be better. FFXI has far more in terms of content. The grouping and combat systems are also far, far superior than WoW. At its introduction and even now it holds a vast array of concepts novel to MMO games. But all this comes at a cost of complexity and big learning curve. WoW is just the opposite. It's easy to get into, easy to play, easy to get uber items, easy everything. Here, the cost is a sense of shallowness. If you've played MMOs before then WoW is nothing more than another average MMO. "Been there, done that." It's the accessibility that's the major factor in its success. From a technical point of view, I believe FFXI is a better MMO. Just for a comparison. When WoW released I got to level 55 in 2 weeks. FFXI I was getting killed repeatedly at level 5, FIVE. That, is the difference between their respective difficulties. Again, FFXI has also way, way more contect. I've quit FFXI and sold my account. I literally cannot start again even if I wanted to cause there's just so much you have to do to build up your character to a respectable status. I've heard that FFXI economy is turning to crap. I'm not very sure about this personally. When I quit a year ago or so it's pretty good. Hardcore, but good none the less. At least it's guaranteed to be better than WoW, which doesn't have an economy at all. Gold is freakin worthless. Since the best items are "bind on pickup", you can't buy or sell them. That means end game, Gold can't be traded for anything you'll really want, which is suppose to be the purpose of a currency in the first place.
I've been playing both Wow and FFXI now FFXI 9 months and Wow soon 5 months The question in this matter is really, how much time you wanna spend on playing those games. If you wanna spend a looong time then go with FFXI no doubt If you want to spend less time go with Wow FFXI : I have to admit. This is probably the best game I've ever played. This game is very very social since you pretty much have to make a full 6 man party for good exp from lvl 10 and up. The downsides would probably be the GIGANTIC waiting time there is on some jobs when trying to find a party. when playing jobs like Dark knight, Dragoon, Monk and Samurai you WILL have long time waiting. The worst I've ever tried was waiting freaking 2 days for a party without a single party invite (I went dark knight so it's kinda understandable ). FFXI is also a game where armor and weapon is a very important thing. Unlike wow there's pretty much only a best choice and a secondary choice evry 3-7th lvl. That can both be looked on as good and bad. 1 is that you dont have to run around looking for another armor because you dont know if you got the best on your lvl. The downside is when you get in higher lvls (60+) people have played the game a very long time and they will tell you without certain equip they dont want you in the party. that's life. Wow. This game is pretty easy to come in on. The armors you'll want is pretty easy to get and most of the time you actually get em by random monster drops. It's not NEAR as social as FFXI but got a godly PVP system(If you're alliance and see a horde there WILL be a fight! =D ) unlike FFXI where you'll have to sign in for a ballista before you can battle against other people WOW got a all time PVP ^^
it seems very possible right now that I will buy FFXI and test it for the first 30 days and then co-play with my friend's WoW account, that way I get the best of both worlds. Basically your saying, FF XI = hard and requires a party (i like the difficulty, but i hate relying on other people and im not too social if i dont have to be) and that WoW = traditional RPG that can be soloed? Also, what is the monthly fee for FF XI? I heard it was like $12.95 base + $1 per char or something like that.... Also, is there anyway to pay for it outside credit card? What classes/races/sub-classes (as i believe you can multi-class in FF XI much like tactics advanced?) from XI and WoW? I know the majority of the races/classes on WoW as I have played it before. FF XI is basically a 3 dimensional version of tactics from how your characters are setup, right? Thats what im getting out of all of this. A certain best classes/weapons/armor/etc. Different races/classes. So far I am appreciating all your feedback guys itll help me make a decision as to which game I play more. And ya, I am not new to RPGs Im 17 and can clear most advanced (60+ hours base game, no mini games) in about 20-30 hours. I am also one of those weird people who after they beat it once they do things like the NMMNSNPSNLB FF 7 (no magic materia, no summon, no player switch, no limit break) except when absolutely impossible to avoid (like when you have Sephiroth in your party). I think my favorite one was Star Ocean: TTeoT when you had to beat the final boss with an average party level of 1 and 10. That or the no sphere grid FF X (which was DAMN difficult, talk about massive use of phoenix downs and Aeons EVERY battle, i never fully accomplished this one). I enjoy difficult games. Games like FF X-2 (EXTREMELY easy) bored me to death by the ending.
About gold and economy..it doesnt help any that for both games...your able to purchase gold easily...Which could bring the economy down...
The price is pretty much the same on those 2 games for monthly ^^ For evry extra characther you make on your account in FFXI it cost a dollar extra evry month.. And no theres no other way on paying for FFXI than Credit card. There should be in WOW But that's the great thing about FFXI. You can change your Class as MANY times you want in FFXI on the same character! =D This is really great so the only thing you really need a new character for is other race and other name Classes you can start with playing in FFXI: Warrior - Thief - Monk - Black Mage - White Mage - Red Mage - Classes you can play after reaching lvl 30 with another job and completing a certain quest that allows you to play the job : Dark knight - Dragoon - Bard - Paladin - Ranger - Samurai - Summoner - Ninja - Beast Master - Blue mage and Corsair (after the newly released expansion set ! =D ) Evry job can be used as Sub job just like it can be used as main job A BRILLIANT site for FFXI info is http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html Hope this helped ^^
Hehe no problem ^^ always glad to help out Oh and I would suggest you to get some music you like down on your computer for the waiting times on party/ Farming if you choose FFXI =P
Ive got over 9,000 songs, i think ill be good I just hate being social and having to rely on other people to get through something. One thing ive always liked was difficulty, but its almost worthless if it requires multiple people and yet its still difficult. Id much rather find a hard game playable by 1 person. I guess ill live tho
