uhmm. he can't even access windows...and you want him to do something that requires access to windows. Do not listen to the last post. The one I told ya should work just fine. [/b][/quote]
you don't know what you are talking about, you can partition from simple dos, just plug in a hardrive from any comp with dos into that comp and have the second HD (one with deactivated windows) partitioned.

also you can try getting linux for free, perhaps even partition with that.

EDIT:magnets don't work, maybe an electromagnet getting a few huindred trillion volts to it would but magnets in general don't affect HDs that much.
if you want to entirely destroy the HD, take a drill to it.

First, make sure you have the BIOS check the floppy drive first. You should be able to use a 98 boot disk. Make sure the boot disk is in the drive BEFORE you turn on the computer.

There are other ways. If you're going to reinstall XP on the harddrive, just set the BIOS to check you cd drive for the boot volume. Then stick in your XP cd and reboot. It should ask you to press any key if you want to boot from CD. This should allow you to delete you old partition and create a new one. The XP setup should let you reformat the drive.

No, there is no way to reformat while in windows (in XP anyways). How are you going to delete the OS while you're still using it??

    Heres what you do.
    1. Insert the Windows Installation CD
    2. Go through the menus and when it asks you which partition you want to create windows on delete the partition. The key will be on the screen somewhere. Select yes when it asks you are you sure.
    2. Create a new partition. As above the key will be on the screen.
    3. Install windows on the partition you just created.

    Any problems consult me. =]

    WINDOWS 95/98/ME
    Go to my computer.
    Get a blank diskette.
Format it, check copy system files.
Boot it up and type format C:

    Windows 2000/XP
    Put in the installation CD.
Start the installation. Go to the Partition Manager.
    Format the partition.
While it is copying files, reboot (if you don't want to reinstall), else let it continue.

Magnets do not work, you will not find one strong enough to actually wipe the drive.

Make a windows boot disk and copy fdisk.exe and format.com onto the disk if they werent copied during boot disk creation.
insert the floppy to boot from and power on the PC
When you get to the A: prompt you can either type
format c: if you only have one partition on there
or type fdisk and follow the prompts to delete partitions and then reboot and recreate using fdisk
then reboot and format c: afterwards
