Offtopic, get the i hate noobs text outta your sig, its making yourself look noob. You won't lose any files, if you don't format. You just need to reinstall every application and all the drivers, which need to be vista compatible. Xp drivers don't work vista. I'd say get a 30GB partition, and install Vista on that. Leave the rest on the other partition.
