Basically Media Center is more suited for the movie, DVD, music and etc. types of people. It also supports hook-up with Xbox 360 and your TV if I'm not mistaken

Okay... you want to know the difference between the Microsoft Windows Pro Media Center Edition 2005 SP2 and the Microsoft Pro SP2 true? Well, to tell you the truth, the media center. Okay, when you buy a computer and it is suitable for Pro you get all of the domain capabilities and all of the pro features. With Pro MCE, you get the TV tuner, Guide capabilities, and a WHOLE lot more Media things. But here is the catch: the Pro and MCE are same base (PRO!). So, not only are you getting all of the Media gadgets you are getting all of the domain capabilities and the SP2 and everything that pro has. So, all-in-all MCE is the best. Because it has everything Home has + all the things pro has + all the things Media Center editions have, it makes it the most expandable, most dependable, most entertaining, and most secure of all windows XP operating systems.

(BACKGROUND: I own 5 machines. Base OS's: XP Pro, MCE 2003, MCE 2005, Small Business Server 2003, Vista. Since I have used them all, I am qualified to say, MCE is the best right now since Vista is beta.)

    Hope I helped.

Also, from what I have seen, the prices are comparible... I think MCE actually may be cheaper... or something... been awhile since I looked. Check out NewEgg.

    Anyways slightly offtopic but ...

I want to install MCE on my PC - and if i buy the OEM wt will I get - The full MCE CD and serial with it or just the serial ?

Because instead of buying XP Pro I feel MCE seems quite good and going to buy that but need to see what i get and has anyone bought it from a shop and installed it on their machine

CD and serial, duh... don't expect much tech support from OEM...

so if you're the type to do this:
"helo tech support I can't install windows..."

forget about it, if you aren't a retard... go for OEM much cheaper...

The price and a few tweeks, likely leave more holes...

Erm, I have explained the difference... and how would the Base of a Pro system have holes in it compared to a pro system... they run on the same engine with the same ---- except one little plus... media center... there is nothing to breach security wise there, also, the price is pretty much the same... so it is a NO BRAINER!
