I listen to music to: calm myself down distract myself for just entertainment thats about it. normally don't really pay attention to lyrics that much honestly.
I mostly listen to music when I'm with friends but nowadays it also helps me to lighten up my mood from a tiring day at work, an argument with my wife to-be or family. It also is sometimes nice when its light and not very energetic as not always are we in the mood of dance and shizzle (at least sane people aren't!) That's my part of misery.
I listen to music for the feeling of it I listen to everything from Classical to Extreme Power Metal. Generally speaking, I take into account my mood, what I want my mood to be, What I am trying to accomplish, and what day of the week it is =D. While lyrics are an important part of the song, usually they are there not as the main focus, but to help express a broader picture.
