So, I have this theory that somewhere around 90% of Vista users don't actually know why they hate vista; or they hate it for reasons that they heard someone else say.
My opinion on the "vista crisis" if you will, is poor marketing on Microsoft's part. They licensed vista to OEMs with specs far below what the OS should actually run on...thus, people are buying machines with Vista, that are NOT designed FOR vista.

So, Please, anyone who feels they have a legitimate reason to hate, list it here, and I will see if I can present some fallacy to this reasoning...

Yes, and since these machines weren't really meant for Vista, they run it slowly. ( I threw 3 gigs of RAM into my laptop, and I don't have much slowdown at all).

As I am using Vista more and more (on my laptop), I am starting to not dislike it so much, as I use to. I still get occasional issues of compatibility, but other than that it's not much.

I still prefer XP, just like I still preferred 98 over XP, back when that was the case. Its just the matter of being use to something that has relatively no issues, rather than something that will give you hassles.

    Why?

Its a resource hog, it still has security vulnerabilities and driver compatibility issues, and its too pricey for too little of an 'upgrade' (really more of a sidegrade) over windows XP.

I like it. It's noticably more responcive, boots faster and loads programs faster.

so what a stripped down version of vista uses 300mb more RAM than a stripped down version of XP.

BIG F'ing WOW. I have 3700mb more where that came from.

Not to mention, RAM isn't expensive anymore...unless you are a 5 year old living on a $5 a week allowance....you should be okay to just spend the $40 for 2 extra gigs of RAM....
BTW...vista isn't anymore expensive than XP is, or was... buy an OEM version, unless you REALLY need the pretty little book that shows you how to install it...
64 bit OEM Vista Ultimate (Full Version, mind you) = 179.99

I am running it, and I love it....there really aren't that many compatability issues with the x64 either....unless you are trying to install ancient software....in which case you are going to run into problems...even with XP...

    Just for comparison....

    OEM Windows XP SP2 ----- = 139.99

If that $40 is really that big of a difference for you, either you need a new job, or you need to not work with computers...

my problem with Vista is that it keeps on freezing, and trust me its nothing to do with my specs and its not a virus

i try to run a program or even click the Volume control and it freezes out on me (only some programs). I looked into the problem and its actually programming errors on Microsofts part

    Exactly.

I love my Vista and I have been with Vista since it came out. I also know that there are compat. issues with some hardware but then again, that hardware is not really the most used out there.

Turn off Aero or run regular windows "grey bar" with the 9x look and you are running like 100mb - 300mb more RAM than Windows XP which has HORRIBLE search features and lots of flaws as well.

So many people were reluctant to jump from 2k to XP and now it is happening from XP to Vista. It is just the same bull---- that happens every single time.

If everyone were to break down everything in the computer world it all sucks. Every OS, every piece of hardware, every single piece of software, it all ------ing sucks. We shouldn't use computers? ------ it dude, Vista is good. People are just having that change withdraw ----. "OH GOD, CHANGE IS BAD" ------ that.

    Then you fail at life.....

Run is IN the start menu....it's a text box for god's sake..lol...

As far as over complicating it, for a basic computer user, maybe, but I have found a lot of things in Vista that I can't imagine living without....like the 'takeown' command.....I love it...it's much better than using the security settings panel......

Back to the original question at hand: why do you hate vista?

Let me start by saying that I'm running a very well-equipped machine. Apple's dual-2.4 GHz macbook ---, the flagship from last year, fully loaded, with 4 gigs of RAM and 256 megs of VRAM.

I needed windows for MATLAB (I'm an engineer and matlab for mac sucks) so I opted for Vista (even got the Ultimate edition! thanks ThePirateBay!) figuring that the performance specs of my machine could basically overcome all of its' hurdles. This was 100% true for around 4 months. I was using vista without having any problems that any other windows machine doesn't have. I even had my printer working with it.

Then I bought a Blackberry 8130 (the Pearl) and it basically went to hell. Vista hated my blackberry and acted erratic from the moment I installed the blackberry desktop software.

So I hate Vista because it didn't work properly with my phone. Now I'm running XP under the same setup (Boot Camp) and everything is in working order.
