I'm going to be honest here, I was looking at some bunny pictures, and ended up on dead gfx forum, I wish I wasn't late signing up. What happened to this site? And whose the creator of the site, did he like leave his own forum?

    Site history -
Created by a guy calling himself llamaman somewhere around 2004.
Around 2007-2008? the site was sold.
One foundational aspect of the site was the use of credits as a currency of sorts. This caused some contention in the community. The moderation team, in my opinion (and I had some role and accept partial blame) could have acted better. I'd also make the argument that the moderation team should've been doing more "community involvement" as opposed to acting as a bunch of highly active users with their own chat corner.

    Over time activity waned.

A few old faithfuls still hang around every now and then. As far as I can tell only myself and the current owner, Shaggy, act as moderators. I will admit I'm not always online (the whole busy professional life thing).

Ah the mIRC channel was fantastic. The currency system did turn into something crazy the more that I think of it.

Yeah, staff should've been a little more lenient back then. I blame myself for not controlling it more and being more involved with it. I'm hoping to get this site going again, and in the same direction with renders or a different direction with something else.

I have to be honest though, we were definitely a bunch of art thieves back then. It's like nobody really understood the meaning of the word "copyright" lol. That didn't help either.

Ha ha. The other reason this site dead is that making sig renders die to. Even GR's competing forum/site has died out to. I want to get this site going again, but not make the main subject as Sigs but total graphics work. This is the plan and it will come to life.

Yeah there's only so much you can do with sigs. I went to school for Graphic Design because of this site but ended up liking photography/videography WAY more lol.

strange that right after planet renders dumped there ''credit'' system the site went dead also,
shame these sites have all died out.

totally agree all that's needed is active members but what would be the point?

if you cleaned all the dead threads/links/downloads out there is no resources/topics left to read

haven't been here in 10 years, rather surprised the site is still up

forums are dead, sadly. a huge part of gamerenders was signature creations and photoshop tinkerers. this website really instilled a lot of basic tools into people who were messing around, such as myself. if facebook allowed people to have image signatures this would be a coveted website but the internet went in another direction.

oh and photobucket, who basically dominated image hosting in the mid 2000s and were comparable to modern instagram, RUINED everyone's mid 2000s works by removing the ability link photos offsite by hiding them behind a paywall. photobucket was a huge blow to forums along with consolidation of groups in facebook

    very sad

There are still services around. I run a gfx discord that is similar to what this site did and the old JakoolDesigns website. Just gotta find em.

It will always be up even if it never becomes active again. I don't like shutting sites down.

Forums aren't dead. I own several very active ones and new ones are popping up every day. Yeah FB has taken alot of people away with their groups but forums are still so much better when it comes to retaining info and really they have a much better community feel.

Lots of forums have gone, but that's mostly due to the owners not being more innovative, like I wasn't several years ago on here. :(
