    What school are you attending?

I've found no matter where you go... basic curriculum is a joke in design school, and traditional universities don't have the right tools for a good design education. When I was in school, I made the best of the schools staff, connections, tools, etc... The teachers were mostly retired designers, or designers who didn't make it... either way...ASK LOTS of QUESTIONS...they love to talk. And you'll pick up a thing or two. Also, get access to computer labs, TV studios, radio stations, art labs, dark rooms...anything your school offers.

After you get a good grip on what it is you want to do... (for me it was print media) then go out and apply for jobs in that area. Freelancing is nice on the side... but you can look under a rock and find a photoshop monkey. (there's a difference between designer and monkey) So freelance doesn't pay very well anymore. All you noobs out there are sucking up the job well.

Out of school I got into print for a local magazine, and did freelance on the side. While in school, I was a creative director for a pet food distribution company, and owned my own company (5th Floor Creative) 5th Floor delt mostly with local entertainment in Orlando, FL (album covers, promo, t-shirts, photo shoots etc...)

I also sent out my resume and portfolio to every major company's creative department I could think of... I got a few call backs, 3 offers, and took 1 of them. And that's where I am now.

If you want to follow in those foot-steps, go for it. But be ready for criticism along the way. Keep in mind, the ONLY criticism that matters comes from the people that pay you. (and other educated designers)

    :p

Oh, and in my professional opinion... L.E is a designer who meets some of my highest standards alongside concept, and h3llspawn.

I used to work at a department/electronics store here in NZ (Harvey Norman, which is pretty massive in NZ/Aus/UK), and I knew someone who worked in graphics and design at the head office, and he said it was the worst job he'd ever done. He'd never been trained, but he started as an administrator, and was offered the job because he was good with Photoshop and InDesign (learnt them at school). He said it's basically putting pictures of mp3 players and TVs on flyers. About as artistically stimulating as screwing the lids on jam jars all day long.

Considering I'm equally as qualified as you (and let's face it, any qualification that takes 1 year to complete doesn't mean shit), and I don't even consider myself to be a professional designer (even though I have worked as a graphic designer freelance and doing paid work experience), let alone ready to start bragging about how talented and amazing I am.

You've been offered chance after chance to actually show us some work and back up your high opinion of yourself, and you have shown us nothing but a few shitty signatures that look like the junk mail flyers that come in the mail that you throw out without even looking at them.

I know, and have had conversations with, numerous graphic designers who are so amazingly talented that they would laugh you out the door if you talked to them the way you have talked to us. (Jeff Finley, Oliver Barret, Dan Mumford, most of the guys over at the GoMedia forums) You are 20 years old. According to that scrap of paper you posted a while back, you only just completed your 1 year certificate at the end of last year, which means this '6 years of design experience' would have started when you were 14. If qualifications are all that matters (which you have repeatedly stated), then you have about 8 months of design experience.

8 months, buddy. That makes you a fucking noob around here.

You're a funny person. This doesn't even warrant a response. How many threads are you going to set ablaze with your flaming? As I keep saying, to each his own.

Spreading hate is just juvenile and immature. I appreciate constructive criticism, but you're BS here is worthless to anyone. But if you're spewing it to make yourself feel better, go for it. Your ego far exceeds any design skills you think you have.

I have credentials, you have a mouth. You can ramble on all you wish, but you have yet to prove a point...if you even have one...

Really.... send your portfolio to ANYONE in the professional design community, I'd love to see their opinion.

Why must everyone start a flame war on this forums over something like this. The graphics and signatures we make here are done by people 12+ and almost none of these are professional worthy because of copyrights. We make these tags for plain and simple fun, why must you bring the real world into simple time consuming after college classes entertainment.

    That's not really the issue.

The issue is that Clash is a liar and won't admit to it.

Well with clash he is just super cocky and takes what is non professional work and tries to make it seem professional.

He says he is a great designer yet he never shows us anything worth what he brags so heavily about and even if he works as a designer for AT&T his work there should not look anything like any of these, so his argument of being a great tag designer are false.

I didn't mean clash as much as everyone mixing the definition of designer in a professional field and some good old photoshop fun.

I don't hate Clash I like his opinions even if I don't always agree with them, they are nice to have.

I find it funny how Clash thinks a 1 year design course is considered credentials.

I know I'm new and not known, who cares.

After reading through this thread, I find it funny that in a field as vague and general as design, the idea of arguing over an arbitrary ruling of who is better then another is such a flame war when something like that can never actually be proven. Credentials mean nothing, awards mean nothing, all that means is you applied in magazines like CMYK, Cannes, The One Show and managed to win. That one design doesn't dictate a career or portfolio. It could, actually, mean you got lucky. And likewise, tagging is copyright infringement on every level, have fun showing that work in a portfolio to a Creative Director, I dare you.

Illustration, Animation, Web Design, Web Coding, Advertising, 3Dimensional Art, Drawings, Painting, Photography, and ever growing realms like augmented reality are all apart of design. And you guys are here, on a forum, debating whose better?

[Whose better, Raphael, Salvatore Dali, George Lois or Denis Peterson?]

^ Doesn't quite work and makes you look like an idiot.

This isn't baseball, stats and numerical history isn't exactly available to compare people, this is a field based on opinions. Those who hide behind their awards are living in the past, and those hiding behind a tag, aren't actually design savvy.

Stop whining like little children and use this forum what it was meant for, an entertaining pass time for tagging, rendering and basic design work in a community of great people. If you want to compare penis sizes, do it elsewhere, your just embarrassing yourselves.
