well if u are wanting to listen to mostly music, then dont buy a 2.1 setup. they are not very good for music

What else would you use speakers for, if not music? <_<

music is not the only thing that comes out of speakers. 2.1 setups are good for gaming and movies, because they are programmed that way. music just doesnt sound as good through them as it does through a decent pair of "standard" speakers which most people are used to on their home stereo. Trust me i have heard the difference. i have a Degree in Audio Engineering and have worked in multi million dollar studios, including the desk that abba and led zepplin recorded on.

all i was trying to say is that if u want them PRIMARILY for music, than i would reccommend against both of them!

Oh really? Well music is all I listen to on my computer...I dont care about movies that much and I dont play games..

So what setup, for less than 100 USD would you reccomend? If you dont have any ideas on an exact system then like, should I get 3.1, 4.1, 5.1 etc?

I'm not sure how I would be able to set up 4.1...

    Would it be like...
One speaker at top left, one top right, one middle left and one middle right..then of course the bass right at the bottom?

well, i wouldnt recommend anything under 100, but i guess im just really fussy now. i have listened to 5.1 Genelec setup worth about 20,000 just for the speakers and the sound is just so beautiful.

but for under 100, personally, i would go to your local retailer and listen to some standard 2 speaker setups. your music will sound a lot better? i have this sort of setup at home. my roomate has a logitech 2.1 setup like yours, and it sounds OK but not brilliant. the bass is very muddy and the highs are a bit over the top.

But yeah, jsut a standard 2 speaker/cd player/amp and hear it before you buy it with a cd that YOU know sounds good! Some well mixed CD's are the new chili peppers, deftones - around the fur, anything eagles, tool - lateralus. there are many.
