What To Save As?

hey when i make my sigs wut should i save it as??? wuts the best quality?? png?

Well, it depends.

Png has transparency, but only in firefox. Also, it can save partial transparency, which is good for renders. It's good quality but large file size.

Jpg is my favorite, with photoshop you can save it with whatever quality you like, and it looks better when someone else resizes it. The downside is no transparency, which means no pop out sigs etc.

Gif has transparency, and can be compressed, but with complex patterns, it gets pretty big. Gif is best for large expanses of monotone, for the file size becomes very small (good thing ).

Mostly it's preference and situation that decides what format to use.

Save it as Gif.

 

save it as a jpg at quality setting 8, 9 or 10. It depends on what the file size will be, but generally 9 is good.

 

If you save it as a jpeg, the size of the file will be greatly higher of that, than if it was saved as a gif. So Gif is probably better.

 

gif is better quality than jpeg, but save it as png

 

I'd say .jpg is much better if you want full quality stuff, when you are saving as a .jpg it asks you what quality you want, if you put it on full the size goe's huge, if you put it on low then the quality sinks way down and it's still quite big, .gif I use on most of my signatures though as it has an alright quality and isn't a bigger file as a .jpg so there's my verdict of what to Save as.

GIf is fixed at 72 or 75dpi with max 256 colors

JPG is whatever dpi you set it with millions of colors
so JPG is better qual then GIF

PNG : not 100% sure about PNG but I guess its like JPG but WITH transparency possibility.

MSIE not YET shows the transparency for PNGs, only for GIFs.
as far as I know only FireFox shows the transparency of PNG.

also not sure about the compression ratio of PNG compared to JPG.

depends, if you can save it as a 30kb gif that looks the same as the 90kb jpg, I'ld say go for gif.

if the 60kb jpg looks the same as a 300kb jpg but better then the 30kb gif, go for the 60kb jpg.

pointless to save the jpg at max quality.
you wouldnt even notice the difference between 80% and 100% and usually not even between 60% and 100%, depends if theres a strong gradient.

just try the different settings in the Save for Web menu and go with the lowest kb that still looks good.

for the gif color palette settings, use "Selective"
