It currently has: 2 1GB Cheap Gateway Memory, 2 512MB Sticks. 1 500gb Western Digital 7200RPM 3.0gb/s HDD 1 500gb Hitachi 7200RPM 3.0gb/s HDD GeForce 8800GT 512MB GFX Card 300mbps TRENDnet Wireless card AMD Phenom 2.2GhZ Quad Core Processor I was wanting a surround sound system for it, but is it really practical? I just got my 300mbps Wireless card, need to get a faster router, currently Super G 108mbps. I just got the new 500gb hard drive today, got everything set-up. Currently running windows vista, should I get XP and dual boot? Also was thinking about a soundcard, but I don't know if its really needed, how much difference is there from a on board audio device? The GFX card is almost a year old, thinking about upgrading, but my PC is running pretty hot now, should I get better fans? Should I get a second DVD Drive? mine has Labelflash. Blue ray disk drive worth it? I download around 10GB of files a day, what Firewall, or protection program should I get? Any other things I could work on? Thanks for your help, it is appreciated. NOTE: L33tsig is not up to date.
for the most part it's fine, only thing I'd think of swapping would be the CPU for a Phenom II, but those aren't released yet.
Cool. I might get more ram, what brand would you suggest? The PC I built has some cheap ram, but its worked great, looking for the same from this PC. Any suggestions for windows vista? Should I get 64 Bit and load up on ram? Whats the most ram for 32 Bit Vista? Oh btw, you were the one who suggested all the parts for the PC thats now sitting in my brothers room. =) He loves it btw, so thanks.
the most RAM for a 32bit OS to natively recognize is between 2-4GB depending on BIOS implementation. as for RAM brand. No suggestion. I buy RAM for what chips they have in them and right now micron has the best chips. That said your system isn't going to benefit from performance RAM. So pretty much anything. The cheapest stuff you can find. 4GB kits are $40 now so there you go.
OK thank you. So I should ditch the 1GB Sticks I have now, and Just buy a 4GB kit? I could put the 1GB Sticks in the other PC, its only got 2 Atm, 2 slots open.
I ordered Ballistics RAM. Its what I have in my home built PC, and it seems to work great. Just ordered 2 2GB Sticks, that way if I want to upgrade to 64 Bit vista, I can add 4 more gbs of ram.
more like what AA level... still not a huge dif. people are still saying that the 9800 and the 4850 are somewhat comparable and how far off is the 9800GTX from the 9800GT? not that much
Firewall: Outpost Firewall ---. OS: Vista or wait for Windows 7. Why vista? Why not. It's a lot better then its earlier stages, and I used to be a "vista" hater, but I got one myself. Vista can go past 2-4GB of RAM. Vista is more user friendly, they have a nice search thing. Sorround sound isn't nessary but, I have a 3:1, which is good.
I Actually love vista. I'm using 32 Bit, but my dad works at duke power and they can get 64 bit vista pretty cheap. Think I might get 8GB RAM and 64 bit vista....but IDK, how much diff is the extra 4GB going to make? I decided just to get surround sound system with blue ray for my tv, because my tv is sitting right beside my pc. I can hook my PC sound to TV, that way I can use it for TV, have blueray and have surround sound for my PC.
