What Program Do You Need To Play Avi Files?

    the title pretty much says it what program do i need to play .avi files because i tried it in windows media player and i get sound but no video so what do i need?

  5. if your gonna get codec packs get k-lite codec full.

    So if i download that is it just able to play now or is that something for converting to another filetype?

    no, its an .exe. you install the codec's and watever codec type you install, that file type works on all programs that run that (example: installing a .avi codec would enable .avi's to be played on WMP, media player classic, or any program that can play .avi's)

    and installing it will allow you to play the files, no converting or that crap neccessary.

    Get divx http://www.divx.com/

    It's like windows media play but a lot faster and with out the extra crap. It also installs a codex for wMP so it can play avi, or atleast it did for me :P
