I'm into rap/r&b/hip-hop/house/trance and a little bit of rock.

I can't understand why Rap/Hip-Hop is so big. I mean, I had listened to it for 5 straight years before I changed to rock, and I just still can't see how Rap is so big. I mean, if you look at it from the outside, it's nothing but a bunch of hype rappers acting like they're cooler/harder than they are. Great, you can swear and shoot a gun, congratulations. Oh, what's that, you were in a gang? That must make you super cool to go against authority!

Don't get me wrong, I still like some rap and it'll always be a genre I like, but it still confuses me as to how huge Rap/Hip-Hop is.

Well unless you grew up in that kind of lifestyle you may never get it. I personally like old school rap like KrsONe, Eazy-E, and 2Pac.

I can understand why it's liked, but I can't understand why it's so big with these white/asian/latin kids. I mean, very few of them ever grew up in this lifestyle (and quite a few blacks as well), but they seem to listen to rap a lot. I mean, I like rap, but I just don't see how it's so big. Especially all this stuff that's being put out now. With Tupac and that, that was real. Today it's all manufactured. This "oh, I'm so gangsta" crap is annoying. They can't obviously be that "hard" if they're not on the streets still. I congratulate them for making something of themselves, but I mean, come on, this drama needs to stop.

Well I understan where your coming from but that is just for publicity so they could sell more. I myself being a mexican grew up next to crips and hispanic gangs know and have seen a lot of things that are said in rap songs. As far as been so big why does it bother you? did it bother you when rock was that big or any other genre?

I never said it bothered me. I just said I don't understand it. I can understand why Rock was/is so big. White people selling white music to white people who happen to be the majority. It makes sense. :)

Plus, Rock doesn't talk about capping a "ni---" because he owes him money and other things like that. I can understand them rapping about what they know, and I find that fine, but to mass market it to those who know nothing about it for profit is just horrible. It sells so it makes for perfect economical sense, but I'd just see it be better off in smaller doses and mainly marketed to those who can understand their background and relate.

I know, I know, but other than him, you can't really name many black people in the rock industry.
