I professionally play piano/keyboard currently (as in I play gigs and what-not). I got up to grade 9 in the Royal Conservatory, and quit because it was boring and moved onto jazz piano. It's way better and involves some more skill and talent. I might go back to Classical music, but I'll focus on classical improvisation which isn't done too much now, even though all the classical greats were improvisers. I also play trumpet right now, which I'm going to have to work a lot on if I want to tour with Cirque du Soleil for a bit before I move on into commerce and law (lol). Music is in my blood and I don't think I could live without it. Especially piano. Edit: I hope that doesn't sound like I'm bragging. It's just that I've done a lot of music studying and such and could talk for days about it. Plus music is one of the only things I'm good with. =(
I played violin for 9 years (stopped when I was 15) and now I'm learning to play the guitar as it's something I've been wanting to do for quite some time now.
played piano for 2 years, guitar for bout a year and a half (still going..though havent played in a while) and sax for bout 6 years (still currently playing).
i played piano through grade 5 of the royal conservatory theory course but my teacher moved back to england. i studied with some julliard dude after that but he was too intense. now i play just about anything that pops into my head. ive been playing for 9 years. also, guitar and trumpet.
Yeah, music definately isn't for everybody and I'm glad it sounds like you weren't forced into an instrument by your parents. I think if you don't have that motivation, desire or drive to be inside the music, then there is no point to try and be forced into it. It's like raping music, which is just... horrible. And there needs to be people to support the musical arts.
I used to be able to play the keyboard. I'm pretty sure I could still play it. We moved a few years ago and mine broke. =[
I've been playing the drums for 3 years now...absoloutely love it. I started playing bass in Febuary, but i really hated it. Stopped going to my lessons and havn't told my Mum yet I play a bit of piano, and that's about it
