Elooo!! Anyways I am really confused on what type of computing profession I should take I live in Uk [to clear up the misconceptions] and 19 at the moment I have done GCSE [Highschool certs. i think it is for US] and A Levels in IT and Computing [College certs NOT university] At the moment I did accounting and finance as a degree programme and found that its not for me so I am trying to change to Multimedia Computing This involves HTML / Flash / Animations / CG / Modelling / Webdesign / Web development / PHP .. all that sort But the programme leader is not replying and might leave it too late - I want to start the programme on Oct06 , which is this year If i dont get a decision before then I am not sure what to do in order to get into the following programme - Hence i would have to apply in 2007 - 1 year gone waste due to accounting and 1 for the decision And this is where you guys/girls come in ... I want your views of what should I do If i dont get the go-ahead for the programme For example ... I want to try get into one of the below hopefully ... Webmaster - Design + maybe development PC Service technicians - The ones who fix computer problems Multimedia/Computing Careers ... If you can name some more It would be a help What kind of stuff do i have to undertake to accomplish this Take extra courses for certs. etc - If anyone would know what kind [personal experience] etc Im more into the Computing side than IT side I hope you can help me in this - I want mature comments please - No people who just post non-worthy answers - I am posting this toget your views on this Thanks budddys ^_^ - DarkStar
hey DS! I myself have an Associates Degree in Computer Specialist (IT) Took me 2 1/2 years to complete, because my mom thought I couldnt take on advanced class, which was easy as hell.. Plus I had to take two classes over again because of the teachers... anywhoo, if you're really into webdesign, maybe you should take a few starter classes, and then see where it leads you...
ah goood buddy  eloo Ye i am thinking of webmaster quite often now but also my cousin told me there is a slight shortage of PC specialist/technicians - There are plenty of programmers but when the PC breaks then they call a PC technician THat might be like a 2nd small career for me So I am probably going to look for some classes - Also thinking of buying some books Thanks bud  - DarkStar
As someone in the web design field at the moment (it is actually my official job and I make good money off of it) I can tell you there is a good amount of money available from doing web sites. During a job I recently got, the guy who I met with told me I needed to beat $3900 (yes two zeros), so as I said, good money to be made. Also, webmastering is relativly profitable, I've done webmastering services for $20 an hour. I dont know how good this kinda income is for you though, I'm young so it just seems like a lot of money to me
if i were you I'd take into account outsourcing. many of the php html etc. jobs can be doe anwhere. soem dude in a 3rd world country could do an almost as good job for 1/100th the price...
If you want to get more certifications then go through Comptia IMO. They seem to be the industry standard and what a lot of people look for. Along with IT it is great. CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ CompTIA Security+ CompTIA Server+ CompTIA CTT+ CompTIA HTI+ CompTIA Linux+ CompTIA RFID+ CompTIA CDIA+ CompTIA i-Net+ CompTIA Project+ CompTIA e-Biz+ Thos are all of the Certifications. i-Net + is what you are shooting for I suppose? If you are looking for hardware then ofcourse Project+ is the top I do believe. I have A+ and I am starting to try to go through the list as we speak. I say, good luck. You could buy books, but I think that you can find most good recourses online for free as well. So look around on the internet before you start buying stuff, because, as you may already know, the tests already cost you.
Since webmastering/w/e deels with coding, you could also look into a different style of coding... say Opal or Java. My brother (22 and is a Software tester for a company, mostly Java) says that is in high demand. Just something else to think about.
