Just after downloading the hlds update tool, I installed it and it automatically ran command prompt, updated hlds successfully etc. I then restarted my pc, and decided to have a go on CS 1.6 before I tried to start up a dedicated server. I opened steam, ran counter-Strike from under the "My Games" tab and got this error message: I've tried moving hlds.exe, no difference. I've tried running all my steam games via steam and via the shortcut on my desktop, and I've tried loading them all through X-Fire. Still no difference, has anyone else experienced this error or knows how to fix it? Thanks.
Check the game requirements, if u can run it, then clean the disc and reinstall it. If the problem persists, you might have to reformatt ur computer dude. oh you dont need the cd to play it Merged Post: does it say an error message or saying its offline or something
well google didnt help for me, but i searched the error promt title. Maybe system restore just before you installed the hlds, but back up some files that you have after you installed hlds
OK, Its not that big of a problem.. I'am getting the problem eeor too, when I start my PC + When I click Start Steam, I just click Start CS:S or DOD:S.. And it works.
Problem solved, system restored to before I updated hlds, no change so I uninstalled steam, deleted the valve folder and reinstalled steam and CS, works now [+]repping owned
do you still have the problem after re-installing steam ? Try to post at: http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/st...ser/std_alp.php
This error might happen if there is an extra copy of Steam.dll in one of the game directories or in the system path. There should only be one Steam.dll in your Steam install directory, typically: C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.dll or C:\Valve\Steam\steam.dll The fastest way to find errant steam.dll files is to use your O/S search function from your Start button: Start > Search > For Files or Folders > all files and folders then enter "steam.dll" in the "all or part of the file name:" box and click on the search button. You should only have one Steam installation on your system so you should only have one copy of steam.dll. If you find any others then delete them.
