I think we use effects to make sigs look good.

I mean without effects, we wouldnt have some of the amazing sigs you see today :P

Yeah but do we put too much emphasis on them, that my friend is the question lol =P

as in like when we judge a sig.

    another question lols XD

when you first judge a sig do you look at the effects or the concept?

everything you put on a sig is an effect. so really that is the only thing we do...

So? Sigs look better with more effects anyway. Few people can make a good simplistic looking tag.

me i prefer the simple stuff, cause as an artist i know its not about the external look of the sig, yea sum sig have crazy effects that look cool but beyond those physical effects the sig does nothing, what we need to focus on is putting meaning and purpose into our sigs, so that they give off a mood or feeling so that they stand for sumthing...just because you can make a guy look like he is holding a ball of fire doesn't mean you have a successful composition, all you've done is create realistic looking fire. A truely successful sig is one that connects on a deeper level and makes you think, gives you insight into the person who made it and gives you a new outlook on what is on the sig, and don't get me wrong here i like to see some of the effects people use and i don't pretend to be a master at putting feeling and deeper meaning into my stuff i struggle with it myself. What really bugs me is when i post a sig to be looked at and i get comments saying my stuff is bad because i didn't put enough effects on it and i didn't do enough of sumthing else when in reality the person had/has no idea of what i was really trying to do, people need to think more when they make stuff and judge it. Often times there is a lot more to a sig then whats on the surface.

p.s.-sorry for any typos in the above, i'm sure there are a few lol

    Thats deep. -.- ^

I'm not saying that we have no effects i'm saying that we put too much emphasise of a sigs effects rather than i'ts conceptual factor, that is it's form. Maybe this is too much for people who just like making sigs for fun =P but those who like to get classed and all that usually end up whoring techs just because it would get them higher ratings [some whored tech are ausome btw] it's just when they lose that concept. A good sig i consider looks good but also has that conceptual factor in, it's hard too explian what it really is but lets just say it has form or movement, i say it can include colours let just say flow is really what it's kinda is o.0. i dunno. what i mean by effects? well i mean like smudging and all that and the small things like lighting, ( i've seen people whinge cause theres a few dot thats out of lighting =/)

I'm saying that it's a contest with effects and concepts ++++++ if it looks good it's ok. I"m only saying it's wierd when you get judged for your sig not for the idea behind it but the effects you put into it, don't get me wrong i don't totally push aside effects some times its nessary, it's just when you lose your origional idea for the sig that i get annoyed lols.

let me better explain this, when you make a sig you look at the render or stock asn say how can i make this into a sig, you liek at the pose am i correct? if you don't -.- lols =P anyways you work around that render/stock using those effects that is what i rekon a good sig is, one thats just piles on tech and effect to make a bg then slap on a render that looks cool with out thinking of how it fits into a sig bothers me

lol anyways i'm talkign too much and soon i'll be contradicting my self XD

basically i'm saying that if a sig is underated and has a good concept but not too many effects i go o.0

So if you sig looks good it all =D just don't over do it with effects.

why don't you post sig and i'll try to explian this better =D

    Merged Post:

    Well i found a example

[no offense to the people who i mention]

ok this is taken from the "rate the sig above you" section

    LInk

look at the last post on this page and go to the next post on the very next page.

this is what i get annoyed about lols.

Ok it's not the best sig in the word [no offence] but i can see that it has meaning behind it and it desrved more than 1/10 may 5/10 =P the idea is nice and the colours display a certian emotion too me that is, it might have miss interpret it. =]

Sig's aren't all about effects they're about flow and composition (mainly of those effects) but as said before if we didn't have those effects Sigs wouldn't look like they do today.

I think we do put alot of emphasis on effets, some too much some almost too much. Some effects can make it look good lke some of the sigs I've made but if you put too many it can make it look like crap like some of the sigs I've made. When it comes down to it I think that alot of people load up their sigs with a bunch of effects and people say it's amazing because of all the effects.

What it boils down to is this...
People are now overloading effects to get the approval of others members here, RATHER than what they think makes it look good in their own mind.

Effects can kill a sig just as much as it can help, dont try to overload it and think it'll look amazing.

yes, we need to make sigs that best represent who we are because that whats the sigs are, signitures, you can tell a lot about someone when you look at the sigs they make cause you can find out what they like and how they preceive certain people, objects, etc. I believe we need to kind of rethink ourselfs, our work and maybe simply take it back to basics if need be, i think i've done that several times with my work...i get caught up in a Tech. only to realize later i'm not being true to myself and what I stand for

Exactly, If I look at r3 animated's sigs I'd say he loves music, and I know people who do only sports sigs, so i know he's a huge sports buff. Mine says I either watch too much tv or I like those 2 shows alot. lol

With all these effects going around you loose your identity as a GFX artist and becaome mainstream. That's what I like about my GFX they're hard to replicate.

most effects are over used. one or two c4ds and a ripple are useally enough.

I remeber when you click over the render with a grunge brush 3 times and you had a kick ass sig. But people get board of simplicity and want fancy effects and colors.

Thats why I dont do the "Rate the sig above you" any more its based on mainstream preferences and not if it looks good.
    (Please don't think I'm saying I good, I know I am not. I'm just makeing a statement)

EDIT. woh. I went way off topic, sorry.
