It isn't terrible.

Read and follow some tuts. You'll learn alot very quickly. Just keep at it!

As for that sig, the text kind of kills it. Lower the opacity, and take away the secondary text/move it near the red text

 

I say it's pretty good for a first, but yeah do what Art says.. read up some tuts and you'll be fine

As people have said, try flipping through some tutorials here and there and experiment a bit.
