XP for now. Currently Vista still needs to work out some bugs. Its not that much different besides 3D view of windows, ------ see through windows, (<---Who needs those?) some kind of info bar...etc. Also i would stick to XP cause not everything will be compatible with Vista

Stay with XP and wait for hackers to patch Vista so you dont have to buy every program and you also might want to wait cause vista still needs to work out the drivers.

If your getting a new system, like the people before me stated, stick to Windows XP, try to get a deal where you can upgrade to Vista later on (maybe for free if you ask them). Some Dell's and HP system offer that when you purchase a new computer.

I dunno why people are suggesting mac when the question clearly states whether he should get vista, or keep xp.. :\

To answer the question: Keep XP until Vista gets better security, and more program support.

You guys realize that Vista was in beta for like 2-3 years? There are not that many bugs. I have it installed on another partition on my hard drive, and I think it's pretty cool. I haven't gotten into it "in depth" or anything, but it looks neat and ran well. None of my programs went 'Not Responding', and Vista is defiantly more secure. It has been out for a shorter amount of time, which means there are less known ways to 'hack' it.

Theres little reason to upgrade from XP however theres no reason not to get it if you're buying new.

in certain aspects OSX is certainely ebtter.
    in others it's worse.

and half the ideas in vista which were supposedly riped, weren't a few were seen in the beta's for XP but never shipped, and a few in earlier OSes. Vista isn't exactly original, but it certainly isn't a straight rip.

I'm considering a hackintosh myself though...
