The parents should monitor the inflow of games into their home, simple as that.

OMFG that's such BS. I play that game all the time when I'm mad to take out my anger. It's a GREAT stress reliever.

I've been playing video games for a little over 17 years now, I'll be 20 in a few days. What games I played as a kid were certainly monitored. Same with what games my siblings played and play. Is my 4 year old sister allowed in the room while my 17 year old brother and I play GTA? Hell no. I let her around when I'm playing Battlefront and KOTOR because she's got a Star Wars obsession, but that's it.

The comment about there being no fun games that aren't M-rated....what a load of bull. There is a middle ground between Mickey Mouse and murdering hookers. Go out to a game store and take a look around. Most games are rated T.

And most places employees canNOT sell M-rated games to underaged kids. At the very least they can get fired and face a lawsuit. No, the kids are not buying these games themselves. The parents are. And if they can't bother to actually realize what they're getting their kids, it's their fault and theirs alone.

Parents need to beat their children. Seriosuly beat the hell out of their children. It's not the video games fault kids go kill each other, it is the parents fault for not beating the kid.

IMO: A Person Mature enough to play video games won't allow the video games influence them.

i cant think of a better statement... ^_^

seriously, a video game CAN influence someone, absolutely, but not at the point of going out on the street with an automatic gun and shooting down people... it can barely change your temper when you are tired...

It really all Depends on the person, and the direction their life is really going. If you have ABSOLUTLEY nothing to lose on any level, San Andreas (or something of that nature) Might influence you to be more daring in life. But I mean it when I say Games such as 'The movies' Have influenced me to becoming a script writer. Influence from a video-game to a person is dependant on 2 variables. The Type of Person, and The Type of Game. Nothing more, Nothing less.

Gamestores in almost every circumstance will never face a lawsuit over selling an M rated game to a kid. Target sells M rated games to most kids that are around 13+.

And Im sick of seeing people say its the parents fault 110% that their kids were overwhelemed by some game. Most parents dont know enough about the rating system or the games themselves to properly censor their kids. Parents need to work, cook, shop, clean etc. They cant allways watch their kids to see if there getting to into a game.

Its obviously there responsibilty to try there best to stop there kids from having this stuff happen to them but theres only so much a person can do. Sometimes if people are total whackjobs theres not much you can do about it.

People I know who work at Target have informed me otherwise.

And if a parent can't take the 10 minutes it takes to look up what a game rating means and why the game has that rating....well, I wouldn't quite say they're the best parent in the world. I mean, it says right on the back of the game why it's rated what it is. Flip the case over, look down at the bottom - oh, there it is. Rated M for sex and violence? Little Jimmy can't have it.

it really ISN'T that hard to do.

this is how i look at it

yes it may be possible a child thinks GTA is cool, that shooting is cool, but if he is so easily swayed by peer pressure like that chances are he would join a gang or something anyways, so it does not matter

also these parental advisory groups kind of look at it the wrong way...

if somebody is born with a violent nature, there is no stopping him from doing something violent, but if he starts shooting people in cs or any other game it might be an outlet for anger and help calm him down...

also in GTA and other games there are lots of things that happens that everybody knows would be severe in real life... if you get shot, would you honestly still be running, and you get arrested, im sure somebody would prefer not to commit random violence when it leads to jail...

and the poster with the 9 yr. old kid who wants BB guns, i think its sad to hear that, but blaming games is not the answer, if they use that thinking you could say G.I. joe and toy soldiers corrupts kids minds

and blaming a racing game for street racing is really low, it is pretty much blaming a calculater for someone becoming a good math student, he has to want to use the calculator first, if the person doesnt want to street race in the first place, he wont shell out $60 to do it.
