KARACHI: Four people including a US diplomat were killed and 48 injured on Thursday, some of them were in a critical state, when two bombs exploded near the US consulate in Karachi. Several vehicles were also damaged in blasts. The first bomb was exploded at 09:05 am in a hotel parking lot near US consulate. It was an attempted suicide attack, security officials said. The attacker was trying to hit the car to US consulate and intercepted by the Rangers mobile. Fire broke out after the explosion and damaged the nearby buildings. About 20 vehicles were damaged in the blast and 10 vehicles were charred in the fire erupted after the blast. Fire tenders arrived on the spot and doused the fire. Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area and relief operations were in progress. Some officials from the US consulate also arrived at the scene. Dead bodies and injured were transferred to the Jinnah hospital PNS Shifa. A US diplomat and Rangers personnel Zafar were among the dead. A Moroccan national girl is missing, sources said. The injured included five Rangers personnel and an ASI of police. The blasts occurred in high security zone of Karachi where along with US consulate, consulates of other countries, Rangers headquarter, governor house, four five star hotels and other important government offices are situated.
