Next month I'm going to be getting about $1000-1500 of spare cash, what should I upgrade on my computer? Specs If theres specs I left out let me know and tell me how to find xD 22" monitor 8800 GTS graphics card Oh and I'm looking to make myself be able to play Crysis on high
right now, that would only be in the server space where their platform scales better. as it is, AMD's fastest quadcore is slower than intel's slowest and Intel is launching their next revision of quad this month which is going to increase perclock performance by roughly 3-10% in most cases. basically as it is- you can get a Core 2 (penryn) to around 4Ghz and it's comparable to a 5Ghz Athlon X2 you can get an athlon x2 to around 3.5GHz(and that's pushing it) and it's comparable to a 2.7Ghz Core 2 what you're saying would have been true around 2 years ago however you could get an athlon x2 to around 2.9Ghz and it'd be comparable to a 5Ghz Pentium D you could get a pentium D(prescott) to around 4Ghz and it'd be comparable to a 2.4Ghz Athlon x2 as for SXE new mothebroard wait For GeForce 9000(aka d9p)(or R700 which is ATis newest chip) quad core based penryn when they're out in a few months 2Gb cheep DDR2 RAM because if you're trying to clock the penryn the RAM will kill it. all of which is under 1k. All of which is pointless to do here and today
You don't need to upgrade. Most people would consider what you currently have an up to date machine. You'd be better off waiting until your money will make a significant impact on your performance.
let's put it this way, you're system is in the top 2% of those currently in use in terms of performance chances are you're fine any upgrades worth a dang are, as inverse said, not even released yet. only thing to consider is a new board, because then you could probably push your CPU from 2.13Ghz towards 3Ghz
You could pick up a decent P35 board for quite cheap. Abit IP35-E or p.ro would be my pick of the bunch. Make sure you get a Penryn capable board, otherwise you'll be kicking yourself when you next come to upgrade. I'm f*cking pissed off that I wont be able to upgrade my CPU until I get a new board, which is usually the last thing I upgrade. Even then, unless I'm getting a new graphics card, the only option I'll have will be a 780i, as I use SLi, and that's more than an update than a brand new chipset, really.
Haha, yeah. "Where's the 45nm Quad support you promised me on the box!!!" Here in New Zealand we have something called the Consumer's Guarantee Act. Essentially this brilliant piece of legislation entitles the buyer to so much, and the retailer to so little. I'm pretty sure if I rang up the Asus supplier here in NZ and threatened to take this breach of the CGA to court, they'd either send me a 780i or refund me on the spot, as they know that they can't win.
