Its just a suggestion that GR should upgrade yto the newest IPB 2.1.6 cause, lol 2.0.4 seems easy to hack now.  just a suggestion?

In the words of Matt Mecham (chief designer of Invision Power Systems, the manufacturer of Invision Power Board) 2.0.4 is just as secure as 2.1.x systems. The only difference is the capabilities and mods available. While there is a reputation system for 2.1.x, there is not a mod for a 2.1.x IBStore, 2 of the largest mods that make GR successful.

There are also many mods that go unnoticed to the common eye that are here fore the moderators/admins that are not available to 2.1.x. This has been brought up before and discarded, there is more sacrifice over gain when it comes to updating this forum software to the latest version(s).

Basically, what he said is right. There's no need to upgrade to 2.1.x because right now everying is running fairly smoothly. The only thing that would could risk losing by upgrading is the loss of modification support, because the ones that we use may not have support in ipb 2.1.x.

Like swat and dementia said, the main reason is the mods...
even though there is a rep mod for 2.1 but the store is not fully upgraded so for now 2.0.4 is good enough

If its not broke, don't fix it. We have other priorities such as getting a new skin before we update to the latest version of ipb.

    go, SwAT!

the whole coding business is different from 2.04 to 2.1.6, even if we could use the same mods in 2.1, why the sudden change?

Last Christmas, Llama updated this from 1.0.3 to 2.0.4. that should keep a majority of hackers out. plus moving servers helped keep hackers out.

That was about the best move for us...

I'm assuming that there already a protection mod on this forum, because there are exploits that are widley known to get an admin account.

I gaurentee someone would have tried and done something with creds or something...

No matter what version there is, IPB or any software at that will have vulnerable spots.

A very good friend of mine has even contacted IPB telling them how there is several ways to hack they're software. They don't get back to her though.

Of course you'd have to be very skilled and have loads of experience like her to find flaws, but I'm sure some people out there know how to do it.

No matter what someone does, a forum can always be hacked. Let's just prey no one has the abilities or gesture to do such a thing.

Yes, there are protection mods in place.

Well, I've been around computers for a long time, and have picked up y fair share of knowledge along the way.

NASA got hacked, so.... to be honest theres not much thats impossible to hack.

Althought NASA does have multiple entry points while GR only has one NASA uses more security features.

    It all balances.

    Pfft who cares about Nasa...

The White House, Pentagon, NSA, CIA have all been hacked at one time or another..
