Unmountable Boot Vlume

    on saturday when i turned on my comp , i noticed the horrible blue screen of death .. it said UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME , the only thing i could do was format my hard drive ... can someone tell me what it is exactly , and is there any way of avoiding it , ty in advance ^_^

    Goes like this:

    CAUSE

    1.The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.

    2.You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.

    3.The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.

    Either of 'em.

    It is more than likely #1. You probably lost or damaged part of the boot sector data causing it to not mount the boot sector properly, thus causing the error. Could be a bad sector, damaged, or something else happened out of the blue.

    my guess is that ur system is damaged is it still doing it ?

    nah, i re installed windows on my comp , i was just wondering how can i prevent that thing from happening again .. i got ALOT of stuff to replace on my comp now ... (kicks self for not having blank CD'S)

    All you had to do was stick in your Windows disk and click repair and it would repair it.

    This happened 3 times while playing Wake Island in BF2... weird.
