I'm beginning to think my computer is on the verge of blowing up. Today, I was working on a project in photoshop and I noticed my computer was extremely loud, so I turned it off for about 15 minutes. When I came back, I tried to open the file that I was working on and it told me that it isn't compatible with my version of Photoshop.. weird. Anyways, I came on here to ask about that, when my Firefox started going CRAZY. The page scrolls up and down super fast over and over.. I figured something was probably wrong with my mouse or keyboard, so I unplugged both of them and it was still happening. I unistalled Firefox and reinstalled it and it still happened. SO, I decided to restore my computer to yesterday. Came back on, installed Firefox again and it's still happening. I downloaded a program to check my processor temperature and it said 66C.. Which is like 150F, right.. Is that bad? Help meee.. EDIT: Internet Explorer works fine, by the way.
lol, both posts above are not exactly helpfull... 66c is a bit hot, but ive hit 87c with no damage... so no, its not ganna blow up lol
66c is really hot, i would suggest to take a spray can of compressed air and just clean out the dust from your computer
Something called Sandra I got from download.com: http://www.download.com/SiSoftware-Sandra-...tml?tag=lst-0-1 Anyways, the massive scrolling attack only seems to happen when I maximize the Firefox window, or gradually make it bigger until it starts happening. I'm gonna try and delete the plugins that I use on Firefox and see if that helps. If it doesn't help, keep on suggesting. Thanks! EDIT: Didn't work.
What kind of CPU is it and what model. Have you cleaned your mouse and keyboard? Hair on the ball or optical lens? The photoshop file may not open as it may have corrupted when you saved it. As for it being loud, that could be due to the fans speeding up to cope with the heat. Open up the case and clean out that dust to see if that helps. If it doesnt cool it down, maybe invest in an aftermarket Heatsink and Cooling fan for your CPU.
P4s do usually run on the hot side, I beleive they put out over 90W at stock speeds. My c2d for example @ 3.2GHz would only put out around 70-80W by the same comparison(I jsut took the TDP of the x6800 and increased clock speed by 9.2% and then accounted for the 9.4% decrease in heat out put due to undervolting) as Dev said, for the fans ensure that airflow is not restricted. Ensure that the innards of the PC are not cluttered with dust or dirt and that any cables are out of the way and not restricting airflow. this for example is a fairly clean case http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e211/Nasgul04/Pic1.jpg this is not http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a42/GibbyGano/DSCN0598.jpg EDIT idle for p4s northwood would be around 40-50C prescots around 50-55C load would be aaround 10-20C higher than idle.
Thanks for the replies, so far. I clean the dust out once a month, which seems pretty often, but I have to keep the side panel off of my PC and use a fan to help cool it. The PC really isn't worth repairing because it's rather old.. So, no need to buy anything to help. Forgot to mention this: I put in my Windows XP SP2 CD to repair since a lot of things have been going wrong. When the option "Enter to reformat" and "R to repair" came up, it froze. Tried it three different times and I know there's nothing wrong with my CD because I just used it a few weeks ago to reformat. Is it possible that there is something wrong with my hard drive and how would I go about checking?
Don't ever leave the side of your case off. It will not help atall. It completely messes up the airflow from your fans, and they might aswell not be there. 66 is really hot. Was this at full CPU load?
