    I just installed ubuntu on my old insperon 1000, the only thing i've done to it so far is run automatix. the one problem i have is that sound on web pages does not work at all, flash games sound boards ect... i have tried opera and firefox. The sound for the rest of the computer works fine.

    No, there were no erros that I saw, i'm not sure if web page sounds were working before that or not either.

    maybe Ubuntu doesn't have the right codecs for the sounds on the web pages. Linux generally uses .ogg audio files, so look around for some codecs. Just my suggestion.

    mp3 codecs aren't included with ubuntu blah blah blah...

    as was said try downloading codecs see fi ti does anything

    also, this is on a linux distribution, not windows XP... sound discs that came witht he system are all but useless for this.

    Yeah i already had all the codecs ect.. I finally found a soulution though.I had to sudo gedit /etc/firefox/firefoxr
    and change
    FIREFOX_DSP="none"
    to
    FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"

    and the sound worked
