Well, all you did was add little effects to the background of the top one, and on the bottom one all you've done is add a grungy background , and some film grain on the bottom one, I suggest you look at some tutorials.
These add up to my 4th works. But oh well, I knoow you're right. I am reading lots and lots of tutorials and not sure which style I like best.
