Oh, so I guess you would know more about 'The Netherlands' than about Belgium and The Netherlands.

Because it used to be just 1 big country. Well, in the middle-ages at least.

Oh wait. No, I mean after the Roman Empire. During the Roman Empire there was 'Belgica'. But after the Roman Empire Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg (and parts of present Germany and France) were all called 'The Netherlands'. I think, bare in mind its almost 6 am and I had a severe migrain attack yesterday.

well that period of time was left mostly blank in my education. atleastin terms of political development.

mostly just covered social and religious trends at that point primarily in Britain, france, prussia, and Russia. ehh go figure...

think about it this way, I probably know of dutch history about as well as you know of american history(summarized as peopel came in boats killed indians held a feast celebrating the plunder of the land, some farmers attacked some guys in red coats with white Xs centered over their hearts, made a government, got in a fight because of some black dudes, and then went on with life until they bailed the world out of WWI, WII, and the cold war while simultaneously f'ing up asia)

That made me lol. But I haven't reach that stage (America) yet. You see, I only get 2 hours of history a week :(.
And theres enough of Europes own history to fill up those 2 hours, easily :)

in America we basically skim over it and are mroe centric on north american history(most of us anyway).

basically before 1500 can be summarized in 20 minutes.... then we only have 500 years to cover vs. A LOT...
