I for one, don't think I'm uptight. I'm always in IRC and I'm usually talking so most people that frequent irc know me. Same goes for the other moderators. None of them are uptight, its just a matter of getting to know people. Go to IRC and get to know people in the community, I think that's a great idea :)

Yea but swat do you really think you would have gotten moderator if it wasn't for Andrew and talking to Shaggy and getting you that position most no one realy knew who you were bro...i mean like I know you i think your a great kid but once again you never shown really anything to the members who don't visit IRC in activity and proving your self to them.

That's how it is on the site I go to and moderate. If you temporarily step down because you need to concentrate on real life things such as exams, give notice, and say when you'll be back, then you'll be allowed to take your position back up upon your return. If you resign and say you're going to leave the site and then get pissy when someone else is appointed in your former spot, and go on to abuse the mod team when your request to return to modding is denied, then too bad for you. If you vanish for a long period of time, long enough that you are demoted and then come back all pissy, too bad.

Everyone here started out as pretty much nothing, I'd like to think that a fair amount of people know me here, i did my best to be known. The other thing that you have to take into consideration is that i never asked for a position except when there were a few irc mod openings and i applied to that and I did not get the job, zarox, darkstar, and thebrotherhood (now gone) were hired. Eventually, I became an irc mod, then was asked if I would like to be a mod by shaggy a few weeks ago. I know that you're a bit jelous blazeman because you feel that you 'deserve' a job, when infact, you were always trying to get on staff, so please, don't give me that.

Someone being well-known isn't necessarily all that important when it comes to being a mod. Them being knowledgable in their section and demonstrating that they can handle the job is more so. What you know should be more important than who you know - or who knows you.

Unfortunately SwAT bro, I know you and your a great guy, but its true was Blaze says... no one knew you, I mean you do a great job around the forums now that you have the job, and I know you also made PMs asking other mods to do their work for you when you noticed it, but none of the traditional active members really knew you extremely well and it probably was the fact that Andrew talked to Llama about you that finally got you where you are and it was probably also due to that the admins didnt really notice you.

Also, minx, I agree, as I have adminned, modded and smodded on sites of larger sizes (not posts, but by far members) and most of the moderating does go on behind the scenes, which is why I stated I can only emphasize on what the moderators look like to the vast majority of members since im not a mod and do not have access to the mod/admin/staff forums to see whats really going on.

Just close this now. It'll save you a lot of trouble. You see how much GR has changed? It's all bitching now.

Exactly...I think most of the people who complain really have no idea what sort of work goes into moderating and how much of it goes on backstage where no one knows what's happening. Plus there are always people who are sore for getting warned or a temp ban for getting caught breaking rules...which is always fun to deal with.

It's just a fact that with large sites there are always going to be problems, because there's so many people that there are many little cliques, instead of on smaller sites where it's generally just one group.

I also didn't go crazy out of my way to be known, being humble isn't a bad thing. Maybe if i did have 5000 posts and spammed stuff everywhich way, then people would have known me more. But, like I said I do my job, and isn't that all that matters. What would you have, a well known person who did nothing, or a hardworking guy that isn't the most well known.

Behind the scenes...o come on are you really serious most the GR staff is inactive and not on the board ..or i just might get on at the exact time they aren't on line ...and i doubt that alot.

Anyways Swat i'm not Jealous honestly i could careless about making staff i never really needed it honestly i would just give links to Joe and Dave of topics to close..or give my 2 cents into a subject on GR...which to me is good enough.

Neither, as an admin on my sites I get to know the most amount of members I can in my spare time not spent fixing MySQL and server errors, very much so like Shaggy. I have only ever appointed staff after knowing the individual, them having past experiences (and speaking with the members/admins/mods at that site for confirmation), their activeness whether it be in posts or simply in time spent on sites, etc.

A new site can deal with a single admin/mod until about 500 members, then you should appoint your first GMod, then at around 2500 you should appoint a new one, then 5000, then 10000, then 20000, then 40000 etc. until you have about 15 active gmods, 2-3 active admins (i personally dont see a reason for regular mods until those particular sections needs additional help that the mods/admins are having trouble covering, at which point I check to make sure its not a mods fault that particular forum isnt being taken care of, such as one lacking in activeness).
*points towards the anonymous members 90% of the time*

Most mods visit atleast once a day.

Exactly but when you have inactivity by the mods..what does that show ..it shows that here is a board with alot of members post on it...it doesn't show true activity with the staff members...yes some of the members are n00bs but its part of being a moderators working with the members
