I think what people who are saying the site's going downhill don't realize, is that that happens with ALL sites eventually. But you know what causes the uphill and downhill trends? The members. If you care about a site and you think that it's going downhill, then you're going to want to figure out how to get it better again, do what you can, and most importantly, wait it out.

Trust me, I've seen this on many sites. I go on one that I've been on for 2 and a half years. This site is massive (creeping up on 100k members and over 6.5 million posts), but when I joined there was only about 17k members. The size of the site has absolutely exploded in the past two years. And obviously with all the new people, there were a lot of idiots, and stuff HAS gone downhill since. There was a huge anti-new member sentiment last year because of the stupidity of a small minority of the new members. I thought it really sucked how things were going, because I really liked this site a lot. So what did I do? Instead of whining about it, I made tons of suggestions to get the site quality back up. My suggestions lead to about 6 new forums being created, many new board mods created and added (our admin codes everything by hand), and finally resulted in me being made a moderator. And I'm happy to say that in the past six months things have gone uphill a lot.

See? It's all a rollercoaster. If you don't like how a site is going, don't whine and complain about it, but rather suggest things to try and make it better again. It'll help, and it'll gain you large amounts of respect from other members at the same time because you're doing something, instead of complaining yet doing nothing about it.

On here we have things like User's Aid to help new members who cannot afford to buy things that they really want. We've got many members who buy tuts for full rights and release them for free. Stuff like that will in the end go a long way to helping out this site.

See from a man with 1,000+ cred's and he says ban cred's i think it is a good idea =D

i miss getting post and creds for posting anywhere in the forums; CREDITS seem to be the source of most problems or complaintes; or the difference!

    I had 15k last week.
I still want them banned, and im giving these away anyways :\

Seriously, although it will make the marketplace/auctionroom and shops/services completely un-usable, it will get people doing graphics because they want to, not for online money.

I concede that I haven't been a member here for very long, and that the 'hayday' of GR according to most of you vets was before my time. But I know that in my time here I have grown significantly in terms of my knowledge of photoshop as a program. I think that the best thing GR has to offer is the collective experience and skills of her members. I can think of dozens of people on this site who have taken the time to let me know their thoughts and opinions on my works, both rendering and general creations. These opinions have helped shape my skills into what they are today, and I feel I still have much to learn from this community.

I don't think that with any of the problems Ive read about blame should be placed on the moderators or Shaggy. I think that the community itself needs to mature and 'police' it's own members. The best way to do that imo is to ignore those who berate, and commend those who provide helpful, thoughful insight when needed.

Members come and go, we all have lives outside of GR. I think if we embrace new members by offering them our collective knowledge, and by not flaming them (leading to a dislike of the community), this site can continue to thrive for years to come. That is where our collective efforts should lie.

Every forum has their up and downhills, especially big forums.

credits is ruining everything, it's been said in the past and it will be said again. If shaggy really wants to save GameRenders he'll get rid of the stupid credit system...

but just make sure you ban the cred selling for real cash first and than a month or two later get rid of the credits

because youll get much mad members because they just bought the creds

I will probably get flamed for suggesting this, but the credit system is not the problem... There are still a multitude of great resources found for free in the tutorials sections on this site. Even more so if you are a donator/premium member. As it stands, the credit system should act as a way to encourage people to make posts in the various sections of the board. I dont think it's too much to ask for someone who wants to buy a tutorial that they really like (or to request a render they've been wanting) to make a few posts and provide other community members insight.

If anything maybe make a price ceiling in the offeres/request forum to control the pricing. But I don't think getting rid of the creds is the answer.

well, I agree the credit system isnt all bad, but it suffers from inflation, new people practically have to spam nowadays to buy alot of stuff.

    lol ^_^

If people really really don't want to get rid of credits then atleast clean it by making rules restricting selling of real life items for credits, or buying credits with $$$ and no selling tutorials tahts just stupid and selfish as hell... You wanna make credits open a shop and earn them the right way... Instead of just getting ur daddys credit card # and buying like 20,000 credits.

    CLEAN THE CREDITS SYSTEM! :)
