PS3 vs. 360 vs. Wii - The thread with the facts A neutral look at the 3 systems Last updated 05/28/08. I made this thread, because I am sick and tired of the PS3 zombies trying to predict the future with stats on paper, and theories of what it can do. I wanted a fair thread, so I created it. Before I get started, let me say one thing. There is not, nor will there ever be a clear winner in the console battle. The fact of the matter is every console will have fans, and every console has pros and cons. Pick which one you like. Now which to start with? I'll start with the 360's analysis. PlayStation3 The Outside PS3 Specs In comparison to the 360 on paper, the PS3 is far superior in the hardware department. A cell processor is quite an innovation, but that can be deadly because new things haven't been tested, which can lead to trouble. The Advantages The PS3 has a more advanced CPU(like xenos it's a PPC based processor with an inline execution engine, unlike xenos it's basically a single processor with 8 weak co-processors and getting the most out of it takes a lot of programming skill) and it's arguable that the system uses a better memory architecture. On paper, the stats are simply amazing, in practice though a lot is lacking, this might mean the the PS3 has a lot of headroom for future scaling. Also PSN is free. On top of that buying the PS3 might be justifiable in and of itself solely for the blu ray player. Yes it's $100-300 more than competing players but unlike them it has a lot of flexibility as far as firmware updates go and it can do much much more. The Disadvantages Cell is a very powerful processor which is great at handling tasks often done by supercomputers. Emphasis on good for super computers. As far as gaming goes it's a very inefficient design as far as a CPU goes. Games for the most part are reliant on "brute force" and cell doesn't necessarily deliver that. Could be tragic. Furthermore RSX is based off of nVidia's G70 architecture. Compared to xenos it's an outdated design. The good news here though is that a lot of cells untapped power can be used for graphical processing but that can only go so far when the GPU itself lacks full SM3 support The Battle Well, which is better? You don't know. Neither do I. All the people saying that the PS3 will own are doing 1 thing: Guessing. Anyone who is SMART will just wait and see before making any predictions. I see much hostility towards the 360 because it had a few RARE bugs in RARE boxes. This is hardly something to judge. Let's also remember that the Xbox had far superior stats that the ps2, but simply didn't have enough games. THIS ARGUEMENT WILL NEVER BE WON. There will always be 360 fans, and there will always be PS3 fans. Just remember that. What should I do? The one solution to everything: Buy them both. You can't lose that way. I know what some of you are wondering right now... What about the Wii? Well, some might say nintendo is a bit behind in the race. Me? I think they are in another league. Everyone else is in a race to get their system out, now. Forget the old ones. Sony never talks of the PS2 any more, and who cares about what games are to be released on Xbox? While everyone else was showing their Next Gen consoles, Nintendo unveiled a new gameboy, which no enhancements except for size. They aren't bailing on their old systems. Not that I am accusing Sony and Microsoft of doing so. I wouldn't take my eyes off of the Wii, especially since they released the controller pics. At first I made fun of it, and laughed, but later I realized how much I dislike consoles because of inaccurate aiming. The revolution might be the answer I was looking for. Click here to take a look at the pictures of the Wii's controllers. The Virtual Console can also prove to be amazing. Advantages: Amazing looking controller which, in theory, could provide some amazing gameplay. Also is promised to be one of the cheapest consoles, which could make the difference against the other higher priced competition. Ability to download older games could be quite amazing. Disadvantages: Again, the controller could very well be this consoles downfall. It could possibly lead to extremely complicated gameplay. Projected to be one of the most underpowered systems in the graphics department. One thing we can ALL look forward to is the amazing improvements to the console world. I am not going to lean towards any console. I am buying both. One thing I can say tho and these are facts. First off I dont see tournements for PS2 like there were with Xbox. No matter which one was better there were no tournements. Xbox completely owned the PS2 for online play and for tournements. The best way to put it is PS2 online play is like a offbrand of Xbox Live. If your a real gamer you play online. And if you go real serious you go to tournements to compete for money. I dont see any leagues for PS2 or Sony in general. WCG(www.worldcybergames.com) doesnt hold tournements for any PS2 game but its different when it comes to PC and Xbox. Sony I feel will always be for gamers who dont take gaming seriously and like to play offline single player. Although the PS3 is looking better in my eyes It will always lack something.
Right here man, I totally agree with you, you can't really judge it but I do admit I like the specs that I've seen so far, I'll prolly by both when a couple good games come out that way I can get a deal, because if you've noticed they give deals when the good games come out. Anyway I support this thread because it doesn't have any immature people going blah blah blah ownage blah blah. Of course that's excluding those people who didnt even read this thread up there.
I agree with you. You seem to be one of the only members who understand that it is far too early to be judging any systems. At this point in time we have no idea how good any will be. I think people should wait and see before becoming total fans and bashing the other system.
agree also too early and everyone has there own opinions so it will be different for everyone. Microsoft and Sony wont be looking at specs either. The only thing there going to be looking at are the sale charts.
Yay! *throws a party hat on and dances around this post* Thank-you for posting a neutral view on the release of the two systems. I've been failing miserably to create some form of discussion in the other threads that doesn't revolve around the word "pwnzer". I have an Xbox 360; I'm planning on getting the other two systems. How could I not? The difference in technology in the systems is so vast that it will be interesting to see what each console focuses on. It's known that Nintendo is going to focus on a different gaming experience for everyone. Xbox 360 is focusing in online gaming (based on the upgraded interfaces and their campaign ad "Jump In"). I don't know what PS3 is going for, but whatever it is, I'm excited. Thank-you once again for this post, the first few responses amused me; being they were the complete opposite from what you wanted here, and hopefully this thread stays up for awhile. I'll stay active in it
I totally agree on this post...I, myself am an Xbox Fanboy, but I wouldn't go judging others without playing it. I think that both systems will have almost the same amount, but maybe the PS3 will outpower the Xbox360, but who knows...you don't know what the boys of Nintendo will being doing to the Revolution. Still I love Xbox and PS, I have played on all system consoles, The DS, the PSP, the PS3 and Xbox, and the 360...they all seem all fun to me...also people think PS2s were way better than an Xbox because it had more games for it, unlike the Xbox. It maybe the same but vice versa...360s will have more games and PS3 will not...but who knows untill all of them come out and tried playing on them. -Symbolic
I don't really care much about which is better than which, the playstation 1 has been like my best childhood after the snes days... I'll probably be sticking to ps3 all the way even if the x-box is better. Just be happy with what you feel good with.
