a while ago i downloaded the windows vista rc1 32 bit version, everything was going well until the installation process. it got to the last update task and was almost done but for some weird reason my monitor went into standby mode, anyway i tried it again the next day and it still went in standby mode but after a few hours i was away from the pc and when i came back vista was ok. The problem still happened though, everytime i turned the pc on the monitor would always go into standby for hours (sometimes wouldn't even switch on) the monitor is 100% fine and so is vista as it worked on the pc for a short time and works on my laptop fine, anyway my point is does anyone know why my monitor went into standby mode? i ran the vista upgrade advisor and it said everything was fine and i could use vista but the monitor problem always happened so far me and a mate of mine thinks it's my graphics card but we're still not sure so any help would be great. Here are my pc details (i didn't build it myself it was one i bought a while ago)
Your GFX card really lets it down.. Have you gone into the power settings and set your monitor to not go on standby after a certain time?
Make sure all the cables are connected. Open up the case (I assume your on a Desktop) disconnect, then reconnect everything. Then do a defrag, try it out again. Maybe turn the monitor off/on.
thought it was to do with that, is there any GOOD graphics card i could replace with it? and i haven't changed any monitor settings
i think vista is good (could get some improvements though) but i'm glad i got the rc1 cause if i got the full vista without testing it first and it didn't work i would be sooo dissapointed  i am gonna get vista when it comes out and when i've sorted this problem out
Correct, I think its comparable to a x1950pro, for the GT and x1950xt/7900GTO for ultra, not sure though. Specs:
did you install the proepr drivers? they don't use the XP drivers. also, it's 256bit on the RAM, for some reason 256bit in japanese translates to CMOS.
I bet the prices in the uk are going to be so expensive, and my board doesn't have a PCI-E slot either
You should get a Intel Core 2 Duo proccessor. The graphics card can stay, unless you game on your PC. If you work with programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver and others at the same time, like I do. The proccessor should be a priority. Although 3.4 ghz isn't too bad.
well i went out and got the full version of home permium of vista and it worked fine, no graphics probs at all so i guess it was just a problem with the rc1 disk i had but it was weird how it worked on my laptop yet it never worked on the pc. thanks for replying though guys.
