:censored: It was 'Game Over' for NY legislators attempting to pass a bill that would criminalize the sale of certain computer and video games to minors, as the current session ended Thursday night before the measure could make it through both houses. But sure enough, they have some extra quarters. With the two sides of the aisle finally agreeing on the bill's content, it is fully expected to pass muster and be signed into law by Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) when the session reconvenes in July. The new bill is a compromise of two different versions proposed earlier this year, one supported by Assembly Democrats, the other by Republican Senators. Leaders from the two houses worked together to hammer out the details of the final proposition, which outlines four strategies in combating the sale of violent video games to underage consumers: Selling violent and obscene video games to minors would become punishable as a Class E felony Console manufacturers would be required to include parental-control devices in their systems Retailers would have to adhere to product labeling guidelines A state-established committee would be formed to oversee and study the issue

If they pass this...then I'll have to lose all hope in the US government. Seriously...no one said anything when Hostel, and Hostel II came out, but when a video game does anything even a little bit like it, they all s**t themselves and imagine their kids turning in the spawn of Satan. I guess the government raieses the kids and not there parents. Just wait this is only the begining. It took me a week before I could play Gears again when I accidently turned the Parental control on.
maybe the problem is shoddy parenting and not video game sales. I was playing doom when I was 4 or 5 and I didn't exactly turn out to be a sociopath.
It's hardly cenorship. They are merely trying to enforce laws currently in place. Minors are not allowed to buy the games without parental permission. If permission is given, the minor can still get the game. All it is doing is ensuring only parents are to blame for violent games, and punishing those stores that DID NOT FOLLOW THE LAW. Andrew
the government needs to relax. its a video game, and unless you already have some kind of mental sickness, then you arent going to try to reproduce a video game in real life out of whim. but i guess it doesnt really matter too much to me, since im not a minor
