Welcome to my Terragen tutorial. Terragen is a free terrain generator program with simple, realistic results. In this easy to follow tutorial, im going to show you how to create your own world with Terragen. First thing is, your going to have to download the free program here http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/download.shtml

    1. Now that you have Terragen, open it and you will be shown a screen similar to mine. The first step is to go to view/sculpt. once there, click on the little bulldozer where my mouse is pointing. [IMG]

    2. Start brushing in the area with the brush tool. it doesnt have to look like mine, just create something random. [IMG]

    3. once your done brushing, click the X and go to generate terrain. up the realism settings, if you want your area to look like a canyon or a glacier, up those if you may. for this, im leaving those settings default. [IMG]

    4. now that you have generated terrain, click on the other menu. up the detail button and the image size button for even more detail. where this blue arrow is pointing is your camera position. adjust this to your likings and click render preview. once youve found the angle you like, go onto the next step. [IMG]

    5. now were going to add some grass to the scene. go back to the first menu and click add child [IMG]

    6. from there, go to open layer up at the top. add whatever you wish, for this im going to add desert and grass but you can add whatever your want to. once youve done that, click generate terrain again, then render preview to see what youve got. you may have to re-adjust your camera angle. [IMG]

    7. now lets add some water, on the left side, click the button that looks like water. you can adjust the settings of the water to your liking, just mess around with the bars. once done click generate terrain, render preview, and you may want to move your camera. [IMG]

    8. now add some clouds to this scene. click on the cloud button on the left hand side and adjust the slider bars to your liking. once your done, click generate clouds then render preview. [IMG]

    9. the next step is the atmosphere button, with this you can add haze, make it dark or sunny, whatever you like. once your done adjusting things, go to render preview.[IMG]

    10. you can adjust the sun settings if you wish but for this im not. once your done with everything, render your final image. hopefully, this has helped. you may want to take your final render into photoshop and do some touch ups or even make it into a sig. have fun, and lets see some results. yours truly, navy.[IMG]
