Freelance, I don't think college qualifications would affect your earning potential. Most of your clientele is generated through word of mouth and networking sites like Behance or LinkedIn, or through collaboration with other designers (I've had other designers refer clients to me numerous times). However, qualifications really help in generating job interviews for permanent positions at design studios/companies, as they demonstrate training in industry standard techniques and knowledge.

But for freelancing it really doesn't matter. When I was at Weta Workshop, they said they directly recruit based on skills and abilities. Most of the people working on the floor their weren't University qualified, but rather moved into that kind of design work from other areas.

 

Well this has gotten way of course. You can challenge again in the future now that you know what I look for. Ravr, can we lock this one up?
