okay so i have your basic dell computer, not very good, running XP, a few days ago, i sign on my user account for XP, and everything's peachy, and then about 10 seconds into it, my taskbar just disappears, which is kinda annoying, i've looked into the taskbar and display settings, but nothings coming up, i think it might have something to do with object dock, because it no longer has all of the icons i put on it, it seems like it absorbed the taskbar..heh.. because all of the open applications/minimized applications are on it, it's just really annoying and i was thinking about system restore, but i'm not sure if my dad will go for that, because he'll probably think i downloaded a virus, which i'm pretty sure i didn't. i haven't downloaded anything in the past 2 weeks

    ...that was long

    any advice?

Make sure that you haven't got the taskbar set to auto hide. Just right click on the taskbar, select properties and make sure that the auto hide box is unchecked.
