Suggestion

This would be a B**** to do, I could do it if you all wanted, but what about a new member gift basket? It would have links to really good things to help them out such as Huy-N's rendering tutorial, A link to my free tut thing, so on so forth. Also a single .rar file with all of the basic C4D's, free tuts, renders, and whatnot in it. Where they have to click one link to get started, besides getting Ps or Gimp or w/e. Umm I don't know if I made much scence to you all, but thats for looking. Post any questions, comments, ect.

 

Ohh and a basic guide to graphics talk. Ex. Ps = photoshop, .psd = Photoshop document, ect. this wouldn't be hard but would have to be updated when new words come out.

 

i like this idea, and it probably would be hard to do, and if we do get that gift basket thing going its probably going to be in the new version of GR

 

I really like this idea as well and we could set the welcome PM with a link to the gift basket so all new registered members will get it in a pm.

 

it might be a good idea, but some members who might be joining don't need all that and/or are pretty experienced already graphics wise.

If this idea get accepted, maybe an option of having this gift upon registration would be better.

 

The idea is a bit off. First off there are A LOT of tutorials and resources here. Making a pack of only select things might either be totally useless to a new member because of there interests, or it would greatly benefit.

Example:

'X' member might not be interested in rendering; why put a rendering tutorial in there?
'Y' member might not really care about tags at all and is just here to show art, get better at LPs and get constructive criticism

So to add onto your idea, how about an option where you can select what to put in there? Maybe a certain maximum amount of resources.

Then again this idea might be completely stupid as the member could easily find what he wants on the site.

 

I like this idea I really think the admins should look into this.

I mean even if people are already graphically literate it won't hurt to put some links that will help them navigate the forums better.

 

Well, if you buy a ruby membership, or diamond or platinum and you get all that plus more! So hah.

 

... who do you know that joins GR and automatically becomes a ruby, ect.? Umm in the file, you can have subfiles or whatnot where one pertains to rendering, another to sigs, another to Lp's, so on and so forth. Yeah some people may not need it, but it doesn't hurt to have it laying around just in case you forget something. I think the basis of what is in it would take a while, but once you got it up it could be a resorce for years... Now there would have to be updates, but that shouldn't be to extremely hard. As I said, once the admin/staff take a look at this, and if they first want to see an idea of it, I could do so. First I belive we need to see what the higher up has to say about it.

 

I will edit this post, and include alot of the files that I wish would go into this package. I would do it now but I have to go work. I will try and get this done by tonight. Thanks.

 

I think this would be a really good idea tbh, will help the new members feel more welcome to the site rather than just the standard "thanks for joining" kinda pm

I think its a great idea. Even if they know some of the stuff or don't want to know, I don't see the harm in trying to help a few people out especially if Adefenselesskid would be willing to make it...

 

joining IS a gift basket. thats why we have the resources section. we dont need to hand them resources in a gift. they find what the need in the resources section, and thats what its there for. no offense, but a gift basket is a useless idea.

 

Umm I disagree, yes we have a resorce section, but this is like a boost to the new members, and like jaurak said it wouldn't reall effect you, the main thing I was wanting from the staff is help on which stuff to put in it, and sending it out in a Pm... This would also help distinguish GR from all other graphics sites, which others do this?
