ok I decided to upgrade and install sp2 on my pc...dont ask why...and it installed all fine then restarted and now it starts to load xp and then poof it blue screens and then restarts before I can read what it says...now I CAN NOT format and I cant afford to loose anything on my desktop or in my document, now I do have another hdd thats in there and I made sure it have like at least 3gb incase this happened but I just remembered that it had some folders such as documents and settings which had important files and stuff in it and if I installed windows on that hdd it would over write the files/folder, does anyone know anyway I can get into something so I can rename the folder? and safe mode doesnt work either...I was thinking can I rename folders on my hdd from linux? or is there something else I can try?

Did you do the pre-installation safety instructions?
This happened to me a while ago, then we sent it to the shop and they wiped my HD clean..so idk what to do exactly.

Hmm... what about... -- do you have a boot up disc? Start up off the disc rather than the HD.

If you have your (say if it's XP) XP disc, stick that in your cd-rom and restart the computer.

Once you restart your computer with the disc in your cd-rom, there should be a two line option come up. (Black screen) Basically boot as usual or boot from the disc.

a common cause of blue screens, is memory failure, or memory leakage.
