Ok well, I want some new sound for my computer. needs to be better than my onboard Realtek ALC AC'97.
I also need some speakers. I got a 2.1 set right now. Only 30-watts.

So, how are these? What is out there thats better that isnt too much money?
Lets say max for speakers is 100. and Max for sound card 65.

    Logitech Z-2300 2.1:

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value:

How would you set up 5.1 speakers? I know the base at the bottom but would it be like two straight ahead of you on each side, two up top, and one in center? cuz I'm tryin to figure out if I should stick with 2.1 or not..
Maybe 4.1 max would be good.

Oh yea, btw, I love bass. I'm a bass player also. So make sure the bass is good on the speakers I get...

Also, I only got an 80gb HD right now. So should I get a Raptor 10k rpm 75gb one?
If I do, how do I set it up to get games to load faster? Would I put only games on that Raptor HD and everything else on the other?

Nah, a 5.1 is only good for listing to music or watching a dvd. I have 2.1 and it works great. Perfect quality sound + it doenst take alot of room ;)

    Ahh Ok..
I believe my 2.1 set is the best there is but its kind of highpriced (I'm talkin bout the Z-2300), anything else good for around 70 bucks?

  4. oops i read your post wrong.. ill comment on the hd instead.. uhh you can always get the same 80gb hd and use raid, but i thnk thats more complex, though i think it would be cheaper. how much is the raptor?

The 2.1 is the cheapest. You can get it for a low price but im not sure about quality. I have a 2.1 set for 3 years now and it still works super ! :D

I have an Audigy 2 Value and it's been working great compared to my onboard realtek. It really takes gaming to another level, I would recommend it.

Goldman, you're dead wrong. I've got 5.1 speakers, and the sound in games not only sounds amazing, but can help your gameplay in FPSs, as the sound helps you to determine where your enemy is located.

Diablo, I'd reccomend a SoundBlaster Live! 7.1 channel sound card, like Master said, it's around $30. As for the speakers, you can get the Logitech X530 system, which is typicaly around $60-$70. That's the set up I've got, and the sound quality is great.

    Hmm..I see..
well I will get the Z-2300 or the X-530

and I will probly get the soundcard I already chose..

Its 13 bucks more, but has higher sample rate...which idk if it matters but oh well XD

another thing, SBLive = 64 voices, SB audigy = 1024..so i think audigy might be a bit better..

How many times does your game/music have more than 64 simultaneous voises? But yeah, pretty much all SoundBlasters are good sound cards, so whatever you thuink is right for you.

Well if we get a game on BF2 with 64 people in it and they all shoot at once I will need those 1024 voices..

    XD

and yea..I'll get whatever i guess..doesnt matter..as long as its creative cuz they are the best for sound quality..

raptors are fast, but you don't get a lot of bang for the $.
if you are in want of storage, get another hardrive which is identical to yours and put it into RAID, it will double the efective spee of the HDDs.

another suggestion if you have some cash is to get one of those nice hitachi hardrives... you know the one with 16mb cache and a 15000rpm speed... those are almost twice as fast as raptors....

I'd only be able to afford one thats 37GB's...

also, do I need to buy a RAID system or something for it? How do I set it up? And right now I got a WD..do i need the same brand or same exact model?
