Okay, my whole deal with the SOTW themes is, that they are way too vague. I think adding more specific themes would make it easier for members to make a tag and to get more ideas. Also I believe that people would be willing too enter into SOTW. I know planet renders is our "rival site" but there themes are a little better than ours. For example. These are some themes from PR. Anime: Basically, an anime tag. Shapes: A tag made up of shapes, AND NOTHING ELSE. Elements of Nature: Tag related to stuffs like rain, thunderstorm, extreme hot weather, cyclones, earthquakes, eruptions etc. Old school: Tag using old styles such as grunge, old c4ds (those basic types) etc. Final Fantasy: Simple, a tag that is FF related. Splatters Albert Einstein Typography CD Covers And i think we all know the themes here...water...fire....music....those types are really horid themes. I think if the themes were more specific and more thoughtfull or looked into. More entries would be entered and more activity would be brought forth. Also, i think the members here should be able to give some ideas on what themes should maybe be picked. Like maybe voting for themes we want? or maybe you have a choice of a couple themes and we choose (poll). If anyone has anymore ideas post them up.
You know that I agree with you 100% Because of the vague themes here at GR I think that people do not enter that much. Thus in the end of the week you only have about 15-20 entries. Focusing on one theme at a time is a good idea, as N pointed out. For example you guys said Pixar, it is a good theme, but a bit to broad. Maybe say a movie they made, a certain character, or something that makes us focus on only one part. Or you can give us a render (like in other themes) and tell us what type of technique to use, this way we all as members here at GR get to use different techniques, and get experience using those techniques. good suggestion there m8, some of the ones you mentioned i was thinking of doing in place of pixar this week but with pixar it doesnt limit you to one character as there are quite a few pixar characters. The problem i see with limiting it to one character is the fact that if somebody uses the same render or stock as each other then it kinda becomes like a certain IronMan stock.. There is a sotw suggestion thread in the sotw area as thats where i got pixar from but if you want me to make a new list then ill do that for you later on tonight.
just so you know your theory for no entries doesnt make any sense. the more vague the topic, the easier it is to make an entry. if we say something really specific less people should enter because there are less directions to go in making the tag. we have done just about every theme that any site has done and were trying to avoid repeating them.
I never said "no entries" i said if people had maybe a more specific theme it would accually be easier to make a sig and more people would want too enter... But i guess i get what ur saying... and whats the matter with repeating...if youve done a theme so long ago more than 75% of the member wont even remember why not repeat...makes no sense to me... rather than picking themes that have no feeling or thought in them..repeat ones that do, and maybe change them a tad...and its not about copying themes from other sites, maybe we can pmake up ones that they havnt but not ones that are so meaningless. and when im saying this im not saying the staff has too do all this thinking...im here..i have a brain to think some up aswell LMAO...and other members with good sence of thought.
Elements of Nature is a good theme but if you get too specific I agree with Pulse. fewer people will enter. The SOTW that has the most entries is always freestyle that is about as vague as it gets. SOTW theme suggestions from members is a good idea but there is already thread for that anyway in SOTW section.
Basically my thought is about more feeling with them, i know what im saying, but i cant really put it in words
we appreciate the thoughts and we will keep them in mind. best you all can do now is keep posting theme ideas in the SOTW theme suggestion thread. you could even go ahead and PM pulse or daecu or whoever is running the SOTW at the moment,
Elements of nature is another thing that would kinda go along with the water,fire sotw's previously done imo. But freestyle is always going to be the one where loads of people enter and it isnt a challenge to make just anything and enter with that, where as if its a themed one then people would just have to use their imagination to do something for the set theme. I know where your coming from with this Nansta, but yeh if you have any idea for this then just post it in the sotw suggestions thread, i normally look through there anyway. But like what Bandits has said Pm whoever is doing the comps.
