Well, I won't buy anything partly because I don't have much credits-but good job, keep learning!

    Anyway, for a border:
new layer, ctrl+a (select all), edit>stroke 1 pixel black. :)

I think u shud try and blend the pics more into the bg. Use vector masks, desaturate {shift+crtl+u) and set it to hard light. Also get some nicer brushes to make ur bgs more effective.

Dont know exactly how they pulled that off but for simple easy boarders make a new layer, then selection>all Then Edit>Stroke 5pix black center. Edit>stroke 3pix White center. Edit Stroke>1pix black center. Then just change the layer style to lighten or soft light. It will give you a boader like that. You get diff results with diff colors and stuff.

Yup thats exactly how they did it, except they used a 5 px black inside 4 px white pixel then 1 pixel black inside

for a border like the red one , make a new layer'ctrl&shift&n' then take the square marqee tool press ctrl & A then go to edit at top find stroke , click select 5 or 6 px with the color white and in center then once thats done go to the layer ,right click blending options ,go down to stroke , make it 2px red on outside ,then click color overlay change blend mode to soft light ,then click ok and then set layer to overlay or softlight and i think that should do the border your after:)
    hope it helped
