My friend is setting up a shoutcast server on her home computer. She only has a 1mb line and because of this i think it won't work because when it's trying to stream a song to users it will have to buffer all the time making it very bad for music listening especially if their are multiple users i think it will just say 'buffering' most of the time because a 1mb line will not be able to stream music to multiple people. She disagrees and says it will work fine. Just wondering what exactly would happen in this situation.
from what I can see, a 1mb line won't cut it. you'd need at least a T1 connection. don't kill me if I'm wrong..
I thought it needed to be alot faster aswell, i really can't see a 1mb connection being able to handle it.
I stream to a shoutcast server all the time and I have a 1.1 mb connection. My listeners haven't had any really long buffer times either.
I think Jammie means he sends info to a server, not streaming from his own computer, or at least what i got out of it..
Ok, the general feeling here is that hosted from your own computer on a 1mb connection it cannot stream music efficiently to listeners; right ok i shall return to her with the info.
