No theres no point to guns.. What are the chances of someone breaking into your house to kill you? Guns = problems the only people that should have guns are the police.

Guns should not be accessible this easy , they should not be available to the general public, therefore, banned. If you are worried about protecting your house, get an alarm system! Having a gun does not mean you will necessarily be able to protect your house. What if the intruder snatches the gun from you and kills everyone in sight? What if you can not access the gun when it is needed? What if a child finds the gun? Guns are nothing but trouble.

In my state, as long as you have a gun license, you can walk down te street with a loaded 12 gauge, and they cant do nothing. I've walked around with a 9mm in my hand. As long as when they pull you over to talk to you, the safety is on and you have a license and are 18+, they can't do nothing.

Kids 16-18 can have any sort of pelet gun, whether it's BBs, darts, studs, whatever.

I have personally had one person come into my home rather uninvited at 3AM. He promptly left after seeing the handgun pointed at his chest. It's a deterrant, probably the best deterrant that I could have fielded. Yes, I called the cops. No, I'm not going to sit behind the desk and pray that he doesn't come up while I phone them (considering they ask you to stay on the line as long as possible), nor will I wait on somoene to show up twenty minutes later--he'll be long gone by then.

Had that person had a weapon/if he did and was crazy enough to use it (I never observed one, and to my knowledge, the guy has not been caught), I would have put some rounds into him--I was more than prepared to that night. If I were with the rest of my family, you've got to be kidding me to think that leaving my eight year old brother, three year old sister, and my father in the way of a potentially armed robber to phone the cops is "safe" and a "reasonable decision." But, I didn't have to--rarely do you need to, though you need to be prepared to do so if the situation necessitates it (by my state's laws, had he had a weapon, I would have been perfectly justified in shooting him). It's easy to criticize when you've never been there, and until you have, kindly shut the hell up.

Not useful? No point? No need? People, a guy less than a block away from my home was robbed in his driveway at gunpoint less than a week ago--that was a real, live, loaded weapon aimed at that person's chest. Albeit, that guy was caught a few days later. If that guy had come to my home looking for a quick buck? They're more real than you think.

And if you look at the violent crime rate in Canada, you'll notice that it's higher than both the US and the UK (higher than the US's according to the FBI in 2006). You should know that that is a combination of:

    - murders
    - robberies
    - assaults

    Acceptable?

We don't have the freedom to carry them around--CCW is not a "right," it's something that some states have chosen to allow their citizens to acquire. The process is very lengthy, and the licenses are often denied. You must register that you have a license with your local police department. You must have that license on you whenever you have a firearm on you. You cannot carry that weapon into schools or post offices or a few other places. Notice that these are the "gun free zones" that a lot of the mass killings tend to happen at.

There are a lot of weapons (usually illegal) in criminal hands, since a criminal record disqualifies you from owning one and as such makes a criminal with a weapon breaking the law (*GASP!*). The crime rate won't drop--see the Brady law's period and how it went noticably up.

Funny, since my piece of ---- alarm system was disabled (to my knowledge by the guy) that night. I did buy a new one, but it shows you that they can and often are disabled. I protected my house just fine, thanks.

If a kid gets a gun, it shows how irresponsible a parent is. Only "trouble" with guns are idiots like yourself who don't realize that a responsible gun owner isn't some idiot killing machine.

Well there you go, you said that if he had a weapon you would of shot him which most likely kill him. You would have been charged for murder since he hasn't done anything expect for breaking into your house which isn't much. So you would rather kill someone then let them steal your ----? Even if he did have a weapon you wouldn't need to shoot him.. You could of punched him, beat him or trap him in a room and wait for the cops. Shooting is the cowards way out.

If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.
If government says no-one can own guns, that wont stop criminals. They already disobey the laws, so whats 1 more dumbass law to break.
If normal citizens have guns too, they can protect themselves. Like if a burglar came into my house with a gun, and I had a bat, whos gonna win. I could shoot him before he tries anything.

You are 200% correct. And alot of gun control supporters blame guns on the death of children who commit accidently suicide/murder, but in truth it's the dumbass parents who don't teach their children about them. My little brother is seven years old I don't have to worry about leaveing a loading gun in his reach(not that I do) becasue he was TAUGHT not to touch it.

And also gun-control destroyes "freedom". Once the polititians get their foot in the door they will try to open it...

Lmao who's more ignorant? The one thats trying to be a e-thug or the one thats telling the truth. ------ you

Second of all I have more skill in my finger then your whole body. I have seen guns on the street and the ---- they can do. Damn your lucky your living somewhere nice cause in the getto people don't take that ---- you would have been shot a long time ago.

Third of all I would rather try beating him then shooting him. He knows what hes doing is wrong and wouldn't have done it if there were no guns. If there were no guns no one would be scared. The only people that would be scared are the ones that are breaking the law, the ------s like you that need a gun to defend yourself instead of a knife or something that uses more skill and less deadly. Oh and by the way I'm going to Policing college in the future and from what Ive learned already its considered a murder if you shoot him even if hes on your property, the only way it cant is if you have No trespassing permit but what ----- would get that for there house? Go get a life, join the army and you'll find out what life is about.

In the midst of the darkest depths of death, in which I've faced, not particularly murder, but just death, it is hard to see anyone die to begin with. I would say something witty or whatever for this scenario but I guess this time I should be straight forward:

We should have the right to bear arms. Even if we didn't have guns legalized, it wouldn't stop someone from killing someone else in some other fashion. In fact, people might just start making bombs. I think I'd like to hear a few shots than an enormous bomb blowing up and killing 3-4 times more people than a shooting. I also would rather get shot in the head than stabbed to death throughout my entire body.

I think it is actually SAFER to have the right to bear arms rather than anything else. For Christ's sakes, whether we took out the right or not, we'll still be facing a lot of deaths regardless. It won't help nothing, people will just find an alternative. Get it straight.

If you want to look at a stereotypical look at things, democrats are liberals, and republicans are conservative. Democrats are all for video game violence. So really, the conservative look is BS.

This is why I feel democrats and republicans are both absolute garbage and are one and the same. There's nothing different between the two. Liberalism and Conservatism to the U.S. are so much of a useless idea that it might just be up there with video game violence, WestBoro church, and the Flat Earth Society (yes there are people who believe the earth is FLAT...).

Blue_Fire, a gun requires plenty of skill. You need a good eye to aim, you don't aim for a knife, you just stab the crap out of someone. A knife can be just as dangerous as a gun, in fact, it is. But it has been useful, and so has the gun, especially for hunting and feeding our Pilgrims which was the first step into having the country we live in.

Whether it be a fist, a knife, or a gun, it can all be as useful as it is harmful. Period.

Oooh, the ghetto. Not the ghetto! Not the streets! Please, not the streets! Listen up, kiddo, here's the deal: it ain't a dick-waving contest. I was presented with that situation and I took the action I deemed appropriate. Had that guy had a gun, the last thing on my mind would have been trying to disarm him. You think it's cowardly? Really? Quit watching your movies, kiddo. When you realize that what 50-Cent says ain't your life (or probably his, for the matter), that you aren't some huge, muscular guy that can take down anything and anybody, and that resorting to some insult fest about how deep down in the ghetto you live doesn't work, you'll be a lot better off.

As for where I live: last week, as mentioned, a guy was robbed at gunpoint. In front of his own home. The week before, two were shot in what was apparently a ------ed up drug deal. There have been three murders within five miles of where I live since 1 January 2007. One of those was a police officer. The number of gun-related crimes is much, much higher. Let me guess, none of that ---- would have happened to you because you're too much of a ------ing thug or whatever the hell it is that idiots like you think you are? You would have tried to disarm a potentially armed intruder by running across an open space to try to beat the ---- out of him, lock him in a closet, and then wait on the police to get him?

As for the army, once I'm done with college, I'll be entering as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, which is close enough. This summer, I do boot camp. The next, basic officer school. Had I not found a school that offers NROTC, I would have opted to go for the FBI. What about you, big boy? Even entered high school yet? "Near future" can mean anything from a few days to a few years. I'll say it again: Rainbow Six on Xbox Live while your mommy brings you a Mountain Dew ain't the real world.

As for your policing college ----: you don't have castle laws up there, do you? Here, it's legal to shoot somebody in the following circumstances:

    - in defense of self
    - in defense of a third party

A castle law simply makes that apply on your property, meaning that if he comes into your home with a weapon and presents a real threat to you or anyone else there, you're within the law to shoot him to get out of the situation. Warning shots or any of that cowboy ---- aren't allowed. Canada is not the United States. For the matter, the "castle law" differs and in some cases doesn't even apply in other areas of the united states. For example, in Texas, once they enter your property armed, it's legal to shoot. For me, they have to be inside my home (which this guy was). My daddy/my job/my whatever can beat you up doesn't play any part here.

Skill plays no role when you're lying on the ground with three holes in your chest, wondering why you were stupid enough to run at a guy with a gun. Grow the ------ up.

Lmao you keep going don't you? When the ------ did I ever insult you? All I did is state my comment and I get this ----. You gotta learn guns in not the way out. I use to be just like you thinking guns is cool but once you see your friends getting shot and all this stuff happening in neighborhood you want to be sick. If America had tougher laws on guns this wouldn't be happening. As for the stuff that happens on your street is all gun related, If you had tougher laws on guns that would of never happened but now your paying the price. Wait till one of your friends get shot your gonna wish that guns weren't around. As for the xbox ---- you keep saying isn't true I dont even play consoles anymore. Oh and by the way I'm going into grade 12 next year, how old are you? 16 year old punk that thinks shooting is cool, wait till you shoot someone and you get 5 years jail then your gonna wish you never did. Once again go get a life and stop playing rainbow Vegas cause I think your too into it.

I don't usually post in heated discussions like this one, but I noticed something I had to point out. This is one of the most laughable things i've seen for a long time:

Please could you point to where you read this? Seriously you must have misread the information somewhere as what you said couldn't be futher from the truth. Lets look at some statistics i took a few minutes to gather:

    2004/2005 Total gun homicides:

England + Wales: 78 http://www.gun-control-network.org/GF05.htm (look at the bottom of the page for gun homicides)
US: 10654: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/tables/weaponstab.htm (add up the two gun coloums)

Population of England+Wales is approx 53,700,000
Population of USA is approx 302,000,000

Therefore a simple calculation shows that there is 136 times more gun deaths in the US but the total population size is only less than 6 times bigger. I.e if the population size of England+Wales was the same as the USA, the number of gun deaths in the UK would be 438 compared to 10654 in the USA.

Additionally the latest gun figures for the UK for 2005/2006 show that there were only 50 gun deaths, with 78 the previous year, which is the smallest amount since at least 1999.

    ----

Here's another slightly older statistic showing the same thing more clearly - the gun death rates per 100,000 people in 1999: http://www.gun-control-network.org/GF01.htm

The amount of gun crime deaths per 100,000 in the USA was 34 times larger than the UK, and 7.56 times larger than Canada (who also "apparently" have a higher gun crime rate)

    ----------

    Here's another one: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_...arms-per-capita

Again the total for gun deaths in the USA is way ahead at 27 times bigger than the whole of the UK (inc. Scotland+Northern Ireland) per 1000 people.

    ----------

Conclusion: Please stop misreading completely false statistics that obviously do not stand up before you say:

(P.s I don't have anything against the US in general its just that I don't like people giving false/wrong statistics in a discussion to boost their arguments)
