I was talkig this over with my freind herokeeper, and we were thinking, tuts should be free. A tutorial is a resource someone uses to learn

    webster defines tutorial as
these are learning tools people not things that should be sold.
please post i would like comments and your tohughts on this subject
    -redefined :)

i take all credit for people selling tuts.

    i started the trend.

    flame me!

edit: i'm sure that's NOT how webster's defines it, considering there's a typo in your 'definition'

well think u need to make some profit first and then free later on...spending time on a "advance" TUT needs some pay...some people dont like giving TUTs out to users who arent dedicated to the site....like me...people who register to get free stuff then walk out is just unplesant to see...especially when u get ripped

yea most of them are very shi tty. the fact is people see sweet people like me making bank off of them, and they wanna try their luck. only a handful of the tuts out there are decent

mine, dj's, hells (the best out there imo), and i'm trying out endless's pretty soon.

Why should someone take days if not weeks writing a tutorial with indepth coverage for free and then have the people that bought it learn the technique and then sell their sigs that they made off of that tutorial.
If you want all tuts to be free then you are basically implying that signatures, c4d renders, renders (yes there are tuts for them), templates, skins, and everything possible to make with photoshop or other graphics program, should be free.
Everyone that does graphics has used a tutorial once or twice, so you are basically selling other peoples work in the auction room.

I don't mind tuts being sold. The maker made it so they should do whatever they want with it. If it weren't allowed, you could easily sell the psd of the tut (which is a hilarious loop around it tbh).

You have to buy those things, don't ya?

Yes, they maybe learning tools, but aren't text books, paper, notebooks and such also and you have to pay for em? So yes I think they should be sold, specially if you sit there for hours making them. Stott started a good trend.

Edit: Black looks like we think alike.

word mate...yea ive used TUTs before like TMAC in my earlier designing times...and making TUTs of your style pretty much is another persons style unless "mixed"...TUTs begin with experiments..."good ones that give time"...unless u make a trend/style...TUTs are buliding blocks of Graphics...Nemesis's Smudge Style (been whored but people make TUTs of the same thing but different brushes and add on's)

I PROMISE FOR MY NEXT 3 TUTS SHALL BE FREE

"sig" tutorials should definitely not be for sale...youve got to be kidding me. "sig tuts" only make people worse designers, and they kill their creativity.

The only tutorials that are worth money/credits are tutorials that are for advanced programs such as flash or 3d programs. Or they should be sold if they are for advanced photoshop techniques and tricks, not sigs.

It should be free. unfortunately, I sell them as I learned out of the credits I earned. Basically, I buy tutorials, learn, make new technqiue, sells. Then I just keep repeteating it.

But.... a big, a BIG thing is coming up for all of you and it will be free T_T

Whats the difference from a tutorial, PSD, book, or magazine? They all present you with information/learning tools, its how you use them.

Creator makes a tutorial, then they should be allowed to sell it. Its still their work, and rightfully so. Though i think we need to stop encouraging these noobs who don't know how to make a tutorial ;)
