I recently upgraded to a 7600GS, works great plays bf2 at decent settings (mostly medium/high, even some aa) and works good on my crappy 360 watt psu sp shouldn't suck too much power for you. and no you don't need a dvd drive. BUT it looks like you should go with a x800GTO, it has faster memory and its 256 bit, it has the same amount of pipelines and core speed as the gs, so the x800GTO seems like the better buy, wish I had seen it when I upgraded my card.
don't get a 7600GS when you could get a ful fledged 7600GT for less. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130073 7600GT is around 40% more powerful. I said 7900GS, which si a bit diferent than the 7600GS
a 7600GT outperforms it and is cheaper. The whole idea of the x800GTO is that it's 85$ and can be unlocked to a much mroe expensive x800XT but it isn't anymore... it's 130$ 7600GT and the x800XT are neck and neck in terms of performance. at stock. Overclocked the 7600GT pulls ahead though. you'de be paying more for a more power hungry chip which doesn't perform as well if you go with the x800GTO. At 130$ I can't recomend it, at 85$ it's a steal. a 50% price hike is a lot. It's diference between a 7950GT and an 8800GTS... also, i made the recommendation for it under the pretense that your system had an AGP port. There is no such thing as a 7600GT in the AGP interface. ================================================ ================================================ EDIT: cheep x800GTOs reapeared... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814103172 decent bang/$ at 80$... bad bang/$ at 130... pretty good bang/$ if it unlocks(which isn't guaranteed in any way whatsoever). and again, for a little more a 7600GT is a sure thing - better bang/$ at stock than a stock x800GTO. if overclocked, it can outperform an overclocked x800XT so ehh... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130073 can't go wrong with either of the two... IMO.
hm I guess your right I'll go with the Geforce 7600 GT, I just hope i have enough power. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...4981&CatId=1560 Edit: well I looked on the back of my computer and there was a note on it and it said : Input 220-240V 60 hz Also I saw something about a commit charge I have 1150M. Will there be a problem?
input voltage means mroe ro less nothing. every single power supply in the US takes that input voltage because that's what we get off the powerlines. what I would need to know is the amperage on the 12V rail since the graphics card primarily draws off of the 12V rail. pop open the case(this does not invalidate any warranties any your system will not explode) and look at the power supply,, it should have a label on it... in fact you only need to move the side panel enough to see the power supply label, you don't even need to remove it all away... the above is the label on my PSU. I have two +12V rails. Both can deliver up to 20 Amps opf power and combined they deliver up to 30. Look for the combined amperage on your 12v Rail(s) my guesse is that 15Amps would be enough.
lol I would open it but its a gateway 1400. You need to smash the case off I'm not even joking. So what I will do is the take computer over to the gateway company ( which is near my place) and let them take it off and maybe even replace the case with a different one. Thanks for your help
