I'd say use lots of layers and emphasize the edges. Also smudge tool... and cut away on each layer for polish. also, use skin colours and set the layer to burn/dodge etc. accordingly and when in doubt lower the opacity TOO much. also when doing touch up, use layer masks, not the eraser tool.
